"Nissan has officially gone into full production of their new 4-door sporty flagship model, the eight generation 2009 Nissan Maxima. Today the first unit rolled off the assembly line at Nissan's Smyrna, Tenn. manufacturing plant."

"The Nissan Maxima was first introduced in the US back in 1981, and today four of every five sold are still on the road today. The new 2009 model will come in two guises, the Maxima 3.5 S and Maxima 3.5 SV. Pricing will announced before the sales start in early summer 2008."

 

In a way, this may not be totally good news. In order to be able to send a nice selection of cars of a new generation to each Nissan dealer, production of a new model normally begins around six weeks before cars begin arriving at dealers. Since Nissan continues to say in several places (though not in this particular article) the new Maxima WILL arrive at dealers in late June, it might seem beginning of full production may have been delayed by some glitch that had to be resolved.

But the Smyrna assembly line runs THREE shifts (it is the only Nissan plant that does), so could be able to have a decent supply available for dealers within four weeks if no problems arise.

Of course there have been many dozens of 'preliminary' 2009 Maximas built for various situations, and many have been seen around the country being driven by Nissan test personnel, as well as Nissan company officials.

I will be watching to see if the new double-roof models have problems. Nissan may make a higher percentage of '09s with the regular power sunroof until they are sure the double-roof is trouble-free.

This is an exciting time for Maxima 'nuts' like me.

sellinsomestuff - Glad to see your love for your 6th gen. My 6th gen is a wonderful car that has had nothing but scheduled maintenance, oil/filter changes and a new set of tires during the past 4 years, and my 5th gen also is a smooth, trouble-free vehicle. I still sometimes see my first Maxima ('85) tooling around town, and my heart skips a beat every time it comes into view.

It will be very tough to say goodbye to an old friend, but I always buy a new Maxima the first model year of each generation, and so a 'changing of the guard' will be made. I guess I am fortunate that I have already grown to absolutely love the styling of the '09 Maxima, since I am pre-destined to drive one for the next five years.

 

Light, were you ever unfortunate enough to not absolutely love the styling of any Maxima?

- Well on a positive note the interior is not so bad , but I just cant get past the overall hideous styling of this car. Who is in charge over there (Ghosn) ...but what the hell? Someone should have spoken up when this thing was chosen.....and if this one made it how bad were the other choices? Team should be fired. Good luck Nissan.

But this thread is only a few years old, and did not become truly obsolete until the 7th gen Maximas reached the dealer lots June 26 of 2008.

On second thought, this might be a good thread to lock. Not because it shows a lush naked Russian woman with an inviting look in her eyes, but because it is no longer relevant. Especially since SuperChris erroneously posted his remark meant for the Avalon or CTS board here.
