EverWear 3 step fuel system and induction system cleaning

I went to Meineke today to get a price quote for a tune-up and the mechanic advised me to get this cleaning done. It costs 80 dollars but it comes out to 50 if you get it with the tune-up. Is this thing worth the money?

Thanks

For various reasons I wouldn't trust Meineke.

I would generally agree with you except the manager here is a real nice and honest guy. They are always honest with me and are more than willing to help. I understand that this is the exception rather than the rule, however. I have a Meineke right next to my house and the guys there are shady. Tried selling me an alternator when I didn't need one. I know this because I went back to this Meineke and they told me the truth...lol

Just go buy the most expensive fuel system cleaner you can find. Same thing. You are better off changing your fuel filter than doing that Everwear scam.

And do the tune-up yourself. You'll have the satisfaction of knowing it was done right, and you'll save $$$.

change plugs, air filter, oil/filter, put in a bottle of Redline SI-1, flush your coolant if its time, flush your tranny fluid if its time, flush your PS fluid if you never have, clean the TB and IAC Valve (if it looks heavily deposited when you take off the air assembly and open the butterfly valve).

Dont forget to put antiseize on the plugs. Dont use the Motorvate method for the PS flush and remember that our PS system uses ATF. that is about 1/2 a days work and will leave you at the end of the day .

If someone showed me once how to change plugs, fuel filter, etc.. I would have no problem with doing it myself in the future. Being that such is not the case, I rather pay a mechanic to do it rather than experiment with my car. 2 cents...

EDIT: I purchased a bottle of Chevron Techron. Should I wait until I change my fuel filter in about2k miles with the tune-up or should I just dump it in now.

This is a process similar to what you can do with Seafoam. They clean out the intake manifold with this stuff via a vacuum line, and then they clean the throttle body, and dump some in the gas tank. You can do all this yourself, there are good instructions and how-to's all over the internet. No major mechanic skills needed
