what does a y-pipe sound like?

the only thing keeping me from doing certain mods to my car is the fear of making it loud. i dont like loud cars unless its a badass pick up or an old american muscle car. i was wondering what kind of sound the y-pipe gives the car. theblue's car sounded pretty nice in his videos from the track. the deeper the hum the more i like it (i like no sound at all the best though)

y-pipe alone is pretty subtle. It makes the exhaust tone a bit deeper and you have a nice growl at WOT. But in no way is it really loud....

Actually, Y-pipe by itself--actually, even with other mods--doesn't make a noticeable difference in the sound of the car at all, at any speed. One of my main concerns when I did my mods was also the sound of the car since it's also my daily driver...I installed the Y-pipe and the Stillen intake at the same time. The Intake is the only mod that I can hear. It makes a loud swishing sound under hard acceleration (sucks in air?) which I like ... I didn't realize it until I started the car the other day with the hood up, but the Stillen intake is LOUD! From the cabin, the only time you can hear it is under hard acceleration, but with the hood up, you can hear that's it's sucking in air. Anyways, don't worry about the sound! If installed correctly (no loose bolts/gaskets/pieces), you will barely be able to hear the difference, but you should be able to feel the difference

I beg to differ...the Warpspeed I am selling from my 99 GXE made a distinct improvement in the idle sound of my exhaust...ask any of the MCC members that saw it at San Dimas or Palmdale...it does improve the sound to a growl...I made some clips of it I need to zip up and I will post if you like...oh, and did I mention it was for sale?

i can't hear my Y-pipe over the sound of my intake and my exhaust...but i'm sure it has a nice sound to it...but who really cares about a small sound...the power gains are what you want...right?

sound

I notice a different sound. The car is not really louder, but different.

Definitely when the car is in reverse there is some considerable putt-putt and vibration, just coz the pipe flexes a bit when the engine shifts

But in normal driving, just very subtle putt putt u can barely hear it. No one else will notice.
