98' 5MT Overheating.....Highway Only?????

Any opinions on what to do first? Im thinking flush coolant system and new t-stat. Anybody else had this problem on the highway only? Around town it fine, it only does it when im on the highway at or above 3k in fifth for a while. Ill have to blast the heat and slow down for a while. Any help appreciated.

the coolant flush is a good idea, usally with the symptom you are having its the radiator not working . like if its clogged up inside and/or the cooling fins are blocked off with dirt or something to that effect.

He didn't say, check the fans on the hi-way .... he said after the car is warm.

It could be a sticking thermostat as well .... flush the system, see if that helps. If it doesn't, then I'd look at the thermostat / water pump. If it turns out to be the water pump at all .... do the TC tensioner while you are at it.

thanks for the info guys. oh man, I hope its not the pump.... The fans are running, but im pretty sure even if they werent in the car it wouldnt overheat on the highway. could I get away with just flushing the radiator? Im going to do the flush and thermostat same time i guess. any other suggestions/advice is welcome...................

only other thing I can think of is to inspect the cooling fins and make sure the are not clogged up. I have seen everything from mud,to bugs block airflow through the radiator...of course there is a condensor in front of it...hmmm...so check that too.
