VQ vs VR6...video
VQ vs VR6...video
i just thought i would share this with everyone. this was at the track a little over 2 weeks ago. I actually got 8 runs in for the night. I had 4 runs against my friend's VR6 Corrado, only 3 were captured on video.
i thought for sure i was easily gonna be in the 14s but man it was harder than i thought. now i know that i waited to long to shift and also its not running up to its full potential. i think i need a tune up.
the corrado is chipped, intake, cams, rebuilt head, gutted intake manifold, lightweight flywheel, hi flow cat, dynomax muffler. i just did a little bit of editing, nothing serious. enjoy!

my friends cousin has a 97 vr6 gti and i want to race him bacause he was taking averybody out at the track. but he wouldnt tell me his time. but i dont know if i can take him out with my stock 5gen 5speed.
stock VS stock they're pretty much even, may come down to driver
SPEC Stage 2 Clutch
Fidanza Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel
Injen CAI - slightly modified (3" duct routed from front to filter for more true cold air)
Cattman Headers and Y-Pipe
Greddy SP2 Catback Exhaust
my launches were right around 6000rpms. those launches provided my best 60fts. this is my suspension setup:
TEIN Basic Coilovers
Progress RSB
Otto Racing FSTB
RSTB
All Energy Suspension Polyurethane Bushings
i didn't have any wheel hop at all. i must say those General UHPs hooked up pretty quick. there wasn't reallly that much wheelspin. i tried to control it as much as i could using the clutch.
we speculate that the corrado is making about 185whp give or take a few.
Try launching lower in the rpm band. toss the injen, i had one, modded it to take in real cold air, still didnt like it. Felt like it choked top end. I switched to a pop charger, and it felt much better.
Nice runs never the less! Breaking 14's is nice. I Kept trying to break 13's before i gave up, i just coudlnt do it, i think with headers and slicks would have definatley got me there. The best i ever did was 14.2@99 with some pretty good traction issues

hahaha. believe me i was shocked as well. the most i got in before that was 2. that was the best time i ever had at that track. i don't know if less people are coming out because of gas prices?
wow 6000rpm launch lol. Whatever works for you - that's a helluvalot of wear on the clutch though.
Is that track known to be slow? What were the weather conditions like? I'd expect much quicker times and higher traps from a car with your mods but if you had a bunch of things conspiring against you like a slow track and poor weather conditions for racing then that could explain it.

What type of dyno was that on, and if it was a dynojet, what correction factor do those values represent?

When there is not a lot of people at orlando speed world they usually go cheap on track prep. What psi did your tires have? I think your rims are weighing you down thats y you need to launch at 6k to get a good 60ft.
The best intake is stock that will put him in 14's.

my rims weighing me down? my combo is less than 37lbs. when i launch low the car bogs pretty badly.
time slips

check out the middle slip. that was run 2 in the video. i think i had 14s in that run but i missed third. what do you think?
How is this possible? What do you mean by low launching? unless you are running on some radials or slicks that shouldnt happen.. but if your tires are that grippy... then how did you only pull a 2.3?? Thats confusing. Next time just ride the clutch in at like 4k and then when u get going enough just let it go and see if that helps your 60'. But i am really confused about your launches.

but looking at my dyno graph, i guess i don't have enough power down low to really get moving. when i launch high it falls in the pwer band. thats my only explanation.
Try this.
Cheap fix it might work. The MAF adapter that the injen uses, remove the whole intake, put the stock intake on, and bolt the MAF Adapter onto the maf, and just run it like that. See if you notice any difference.
Stock intake is better then most intakes out there, but IMO i perfer my JWT pop charger the best. When i went from JWT Pop to stock then back to JWT Pop, i noticed a increase in mid range power. Then again its my butt dyno.
