Car is harder and harder to start, PLEASE HELP

Hey,

Overt he past month one of my folks maxima is very hard to start. It is not the starter. I think it has something to do with the key lock mechanism in the ignition. So I was wondering is this a type of problem you can fix yourself, or do I take it to a dealer? Since this might deal with anti theft devices, and would I need special tools? can anyone chime in? thanks a lot

As Pmohr said, more info on the specific symptoms is needed, does it crank and crank and not start, or does it just not do anything, etc.

no, it does not crank. Like there is no electrical contact. Sometimes you have to twitst the key really fast in the ignition and hope it will catch. Once it "contacts" it starts right up.

It has been doing this for the past 3 or so months, and getting slightly worse and worse. meaning sometimes you twist the key as fast as you can and still nothing happens, so you do it again, and again, until it clicks and fires up.
