It still amazes me that people with maximas really go out and street race???!!
After reading couple posts from the general forum i was amazed that people actually "race" this car or challenge others in their Maxes. Im pretty sure im the fastest guy on the road when i commute or get groceries, but i dont go out looking for other samiliarly powered cars and "RACE"??!! I go on and arrange mountain drives in the socal area with my other more powerful sports cars, and especially not my 4 door family car maxima. Of course some of you might remember, i brought my Max once and really were impressed with how it did against M3s, A4s and S4s. But for me the maxima is really a powerful grocery getter from how its marketed and the uninspiring conservative shell. No matter if its faster and handles better than most BMWs and audis that i come across but in the back of my head i still think it looks strange among those cars, even though i was beating the **** out of them and really enjoying it.
So, when i see all these posts about racing each other and other makes on this board, surprised is the least i can say. Im couple years away from 30, but am i really getting old??!! Or i just dont meet people on the streets that wants to run with me. So, please those of you in SoCal, please respond and post if u feel like to have some friendly competition.......or "RACE" as some of you out it.

I will be back from a business trip overseas in about a month, hopefully i will see you guys then.

We never street race. That would be against the law.

Uh Oh

Kev is issuing a formal challenge.

In response to the original post, there is nothing wrong with seeing what our beloved Max can do. To you it may be a grocery getter but to some of us its a SPORTS Sedan. Some us of like to tune and see what our cars can really do even if it is a "grocery getter". Look at the M5 and M3 they are both sport tuned sedans. Just my .02 but in no way a flame or post war.

Nope. More like still too young to fully appreciate driving a "sleeper" hard. Just remember, it's the combination of mechanical bits (and tuning) that makes for the performance, not the marque badge or the image. And they don't care who made/assembled them.

Street racing is juvenile, stupid, and dangerous. It has the potential to kill innocent people. If it was up to me, posts bragging about this brainless activity would be banned from the forum.

OK kids, now flame away.

The Max is in a class by itself. It never seems to make it into either the family sedan or sports sedan "roundups" in the automotive press. Too sporty for family sedan. Rear seat too comfortable for the sports sedans I guess.

Yes, I have street raced in my youth, and somehow lived through it. I was as juvenile, stupid and brainless as today's youth you describe. But that doesn't mean that it isn't still as wrong. The only difference, actually, was that when I was idiotically racing my '74 Porsche with my other acne faced friends there was no internet or Maxima.org to boast about my moronic displays of machismo.

But I gave up street racing after I came upon the aftermath of a drag race accident in Los Angeles and saw my first dead body on the street. There was no blood or anything, so the paramedics left him uncovered as they attended other victims. He looked to be around 18. That cured me forever.

Probably we all have raced at one time or another. Some of us more often, longer, more seriously, (and in some cases, more stupidly) than others. Consider what's more or less in common here - enough interest in cars to spend time modding them and posting anything and everything related to them plus some amount of marque loyalty - so use of that performance should not be surprising.

Sure, I'll still give you a run from the stoplight. For a couple of gears anyway. Or perhaps make you work at it harder down a curving road than you might have expected. And it's all the more satisfying when the car I'm driving doesn't scream "race car" with its visual image but has a conservative appearance instead. That, along with doing my harder driving smoothly (which is more meaningful anyway), is enough for me.

But I have to side with Magellan when it comes to much of what I see posted as "kill stories", "top speed stories", etc., and not just on this board either. At some point you'll all come to realize that you and your passengers are NOT invulnerable. It won't be because people like Magellan or I or anybody else tells you it's so, just all of a sudden and perhaps for no apparent reason it will internally click. You probably won't even see it coming.

BTW, there's a couple of people that call me "Grampa", so now you've got 2 targets.

Norm
