ok, oil question

Hey fellas, do any of you have to "top off" your oil between changes? I do, twice (adds up to over 1/2 quart, more like 5/8). I can't find any leak visually, but there is some grime hanging around the tranny (5 spd). At one time the tranny was leaking due to the reverse switch, so I kinda thought that's what the grime was from.

My friend said switch to synth and the motor might "consume" less oil. Still, I'm guessing that it's a leak somewhere and not consumption. Nissans don't burn at 54k, right? I know some older Toyotas do. Friend with an Avalon at 100k actually burns oil.

No additions for me and I run Valvoline Durablend 5w30 for 5000 miles.

I'm having deja vu with your question as I think you've asked this before. I would search to find out but that requires effort. Your oil consumption doesn't appear to be that significant.

The two things I would do:

1. Go from 5W/30 to 10W/30.
2. Replace the Oil Pressure Switch. Details are in the 4th Gen Maintenance sticky post.

Then see what that does over the life of your current oil drain interval.
