Overheating and weird starting
Overheating and weird starting
Okay, now the car finally runs fine and solid after rebuild, but some weird issues still remain.
1. Starting the car may sometimes be very difficult. It cranks fine but it doesnt always start. I may need to crank many times as long as 20 secs at time, and then it may start,or maybe not.Sometimes it fires right up.If it starts,it runs just fine, like there wasnt any problem.
2. The car overheats. Simple as that. It just overheats. Radiator is full, the other fan works, other doesnt. No leaks, water pump changed. The overheating begun now when I fixed few intake leaks. I'm a little confused.
The overheating issue may be as easy as a bent hose or something, but the starting issue is the one that I need help with. Thanks for any advice!

check all your hoses for your radiator and also what about your thermostat that can be the reason for your overheating.
and for your starting you might want to see if your ignition switch is working properly.

I may have discovered the overheating problem. I fixed the other fan that didnt work but now I found out that something else is also wrong with them. I guess that the sensor for the fans doesnt work perfectly as the fans dont always start to spin even if the temperature is almost at the red. But thats tomorrows business.
The starting thing is quite funny. If the car runs and I shut it for a sec and turn the key again,it starts but if I let it settle for few mins then it doesnt. Maybe something related to fuel pressure?

Anyone?
More details:
When connected to computer and car running,I see the other o2 sensor value jumping so can this cause the problem? I know I have a slight leak where the manifold attaches to the pipe. Also I have a KS code, but that shouldnt cause this, right? And if anyone wonders,I have new plugs and fuel filter. This thing makes me mad because after its fixed I can take it to the inspection and start driving again. Been waiting for that almost two years as I started this project at November 2006.

there is a check valve ,or ball actually, in the fuel pump to prevent the fuel from draining back in the tank when the pump is off. sometimes this valve will stick or leak causing the system to lose pressure when it sits. as a result ,when you start the car it has to re-pressurize the fuel system befor the car will start.replacing the pump is the fix.
of course it is best to verify this by means of a fuel pressure gauge.
you can try cycling the key to "on" wait about 5 seconds, turn the key to "off" and repeat this several times. this will help to "prime" the fuel system befor you actually start it.
I actually have this problem myself...but I just live with it for now.lol!
when I start my car I will start it like normal ,it will usaully sputter and stall, then I turn the key all the way to off, and start it agian,at which point it usaully starts, sometimes it takes a third time .
hope this helps
also if the car doesnt start in about 5 seconds stop cranking and cycle the key because after aobut 5~7 seconds if the car isnt running the fuel pump will shut off iirc.
