Am I crazy (trade I30 for 4th gen)

I posted that I wanted to trade my 01 I30 for a 4th gen maxima. To me they are just more stylish and I love the looks of them lowered with wheels and a lip. I use the infiniti as a daily driver. Are the 4th gen's as reliable as the Infiniti's are and do you all think that I am crazy for wanting to do this?

Of course 4th gens are reliable as I30's, they're virtually the same car (comparing your 01 I30 to 95-01 Maximas)!! Just be careful of what you buy so you don't regret your decision. (Seek a one owner, low mileage ,well maintained and garaged car)

I have not seen a 4th gen with under 100k on it. What do you consider low mileage. My infiniti has 150k on it.

97's in particular were the most reliable. My car has 246000 and I drive it everywhere.

To be perfectly honest, I consider low mileage to be <80k for the average car of the same age (taking into account it's reliability and how long it will last w/o costing an arm and a leg). BUT, considering how reliable Maximas are IMO, my definition of low mileage is any Max with less miles than 120k. They are not very common, but if you have a little patience and search hard, they're out there. Maintained properly, the 4th gen Maxima will easily yield 200k and more.

On a side note, Ptatohed waited 6+ months to find his fully loaded Maxima with less than 80k a few years back.

Not to be sarcastic but they got it right with the 97. Any problems that the 95/96 Max had was corrected in the 97. When Nissan decided to make changes with the 99, they reduced the quality a bit. For instance, the coils. I've never had one problem with mine but a lot of 99's and some 5th gens have this problem.

You just have to look. It took me two months of looking. Not saying it will take that long for you but I bought this one 2 1/2 years ago with 67k miles on it. I just hit 100k on it. Its possible. Just have to look and mine is a 95.

That's why 98's are the best, right between 97 and 99 They even received the updated Auto Climate Control where 97's have the old style.

I have an early build '95 and it's lighter than your precious 97's and 98's so you can suck it

In all seriousness though, you have 5 years of A32 to choose from and you can't really go too wrong with any of them as long as the previous owner(s) maintained it well. I bought mine with 116k on it, I'm up to about 142k now 3 years later and haven't had any major issues...just maintenance. I still get compliments on how nice it is for such an old car with so many miles, too

I wouldn't do it. If your car is running fine keep it and just buy a 4th gen. Or better yet, save your money.

I have a '96 i30t with 197000 miles and no major issues untill recently, somethings wrong with my struts or something. My tires squeal every time i turn and its really hard to turn the wheel sometimes, thats another story though. Anyways I love my car to death, and haven't had a single problem till now, and its probabbly nothin major may just be time for struts.

don't downgrade - get a 4th gen to play with. i picked up my 95' for $860 and that's dealer paperwork included ($650 without). haven't had a problem except regular maintenance parts that need to be replaced sometime. when i got it it had 152k on the odo but that's been stuck for a couple of years...i knew it was a good car when it made the 500 mile trip back home from the dealer without any probs.

btw i got it on ebay

you could get an I30 in a stick.
I had a 96 I30, and I now have a 96 max. similar mileage on both.
the infiniti was a better car. also the infiniti dealer experience is 100x better than nissan.

Infiniti dealer: what can we make you for breakfast
nissan dealer: we'll call you

You are stating an opinion and I'm stating facts that I've found online. Maximas in general are good cars no doubt but I've seen enough people are here over the years complain about their cars. Most of them have complained about the same stuff given the generation of the car. I've never seen someone with a 97 complain about coil packs, or losing they're headlights due to a design flaw.

Wizard:
Both the 97 and 98 were flawless Maximas.

LOL plus there is a 97 Auto holding the record around here for being the fastest stock Maxima.

dude you just got that car and already want to sell it? plus the i30 looks very handsome and sexy and elegant than a 4th gen..( no offense to 4th gen guys) ... i think if you keep the i30 and spend some money on that you can make it a whole lot better looking..
