Question on my time

Hey. I have a 19996 5-speed Maxima. I ran at the track this past May and my times weren't what I thought they would be. I got a 15.25 second in the quarter mile. I thought this was low. My MEVI was zip tied open, broken Harlan switch. I am not sure if the track is slow or what. I was running dead even with a stock 1992 300ZX until the end when I started to pull on him. I now have a push button now so I can open up the MEVI myself (ghetto, I know). My tires have >80% tread as well and a good tune up. I hope to hit the track soon after I get an EU.

Here are my mods:
UDP
Y Pipe
Muffler
MEVI
Ram air intake
Magnaflow resonator
5th gen clutch

Edit: I believe my 60ft was ~2.3

well one thing for sure is you said your MEVI was ziptied open. that for sure is at least part of it. i remember ceaserschariot did some testing with this idea...it was with an 00vi though....so i would assume that this would have to be a big part of your issue...because yeah that's pretty low for those mods.

what was the weather like?

Normal Alabama weather, high humidity upper 80's low 90's. Sunny around 7:00PM. Launched ~2500RPM, didn't do a burnt out.

I was thinking the zip tied open MEVI was the cause of it but didn't think it would affect my times that much. I will have to go back and see how I do again.

well i'm sure hot weather affects perfance too...its crazy how much it affects it!

dude....suprisingly a tied open MEVI or 00vi will hurt times alot. as you, i didn't expect it that much until i read ceasers thread. i will have to find it and post it for you to read. but don't worry about your times....get that rpm switch working and it will be alot better. i will search for the thread

edit: ok i found the thread i was thinking of. it only talks about running it closed but there is a post there of gutting the IM or using a rpm switch otherwise all open or all closed will hurt your times...good read none the less..

Thanks. Good read. I'll have to hit up the track when I get a chance.

Woooow, You have a 19996 Maxima??? How did u get ur hands on something that futuristic?? !! Does it fly??

LOL, just yakin' ya.

but yeah, weather seems to play a huge roll, I was at the track a few weeks ago in my stock 6th gen, the weather was about 99deg and humidity in the 30s and I was barely getting 14.94. That humidity is definitely not helping you either.

dude humidity and heat kills times man.... in the cool of winter with USIM i ran a 11.7 at my local 1000' track...which should = a very low 14 second quarter mile. then i did 00vi swap (which is obviously faster) and in the middle of summer with arkansas heat and humidity i ran a 12.3...which is pretty dang close to a 15 second quarter mile....anyways....no need to fear. run it and let us know

I'll shoot back down there this October, maybe November when it starts to cool off. I'll also have to work on my launch as well. So far I know it is quicker with the MEVI opening after going against my friends modded ZX2 that was I neck and neck with a couple weeks ago.

Grand_Hustle: I was expecting at least a 14.7 when I ran.

heh, hot weather does kill times! last week, i was running 15.3@91 mph all night with similar mods to u. mevi, nwp spacer, y pipe, test pipe, clutch, cai, etc. my best time was back in april in 50 degree temps, which was 14.7 @96 so yeah, dont worry. just go back in cooler weather.
