O/D Light is OFF all the time

Hey Y'all,
I just recently got all 3 oxygen sensors replaced and my knock sensor on my 97 Max. The check engine light is off, however, my O/D light doesn't light up when off. It comes on for a second or two when I start the engine but never comes back on again. Should I be concerned? It runs fine and my mileage has increased ALOT since I replaced the three oxygen sensors and the KS I went from 320 on a full take to about 450 on a full tank. Once again I'm wondering about my O/D light.

your fine, o/d is suppose to be on the light will only appear if you turn it off. Try pressing the button on the side of your gear shifter and the light should light up. Thats how it was designed, to be on unless you turn it off. Its in the owners manual. If you don't have one do a search and you can find the download. Or you can go to Autozone and get a Hayne's Manual

your o/d is fine.

the only other times the o/d off light will remain on if, either you switched off the o/d or there's something wrong with your tranny

Your OD off button should light up when you turn your OD off. But your OD should only be off if you turn it off. What happens when you press your OD on/off button?

My light never says O/D OFF... I always drive with it on. I should have it off?

Very rarely would one ever need to turn his/her OD off. A few examples of when you might want to is when you are going up a long, medium grade and your car keeps hunting between 3rd and 4th gear. Also, sometimes I turn it off while merging onto the highway because I am trying to get up to speed quick but I may be taking my foot off the gas to merge and I don't want it to enter 4th gear (yet). And when I am trying to bury the needle at 140MPH at 3am on Hwy 15 north

Or if you are going down a very steep hill and you want to use engine braking instead of constantly your brakes (so they don't heat up).

I can't really think of any other reasons.

i have a similar problem.... except i think its the button itself, or the wires or something. if i have it off the light stays off until i tilt the shifter a certain way it turns off, until then.... i could have the button off but it stays in O/D.

Nothing that is the issue I'm having. When I press the button on or off the light doesn't come on at all once I'm driving!

Since the light comes on at start-up you know the light works. When you press the OD off button the OD OFF light should turn on. Maybe you have a problem with the OD off switch or it's wiring you may consider checking that. The OD OFF switch has a green with yellow stripe wire that runs to the transmission control module that is located under the BCM in front of the shift lever. You can check the function of the OD OFF switch by jumping ground momentarily to the green/yellow wire. That is what the switch should do when it is activated.

Does your o/d work? If it does do what Nopike stated above.

Could be you have a problem with your transmission control module but that seems unlikely. If your car does not appear to go into OD off mode it's likely the switch or wiring mentioned in my previous post.
