SMC Short Shifter Installed. very Stiff, very noisy.

Hey guys, I have my short throw shifter installed, and its very stiff (understandable), and its very noisy. I can't tell if it's scrapping or tapping the heatshield. I don't have it at the lowest setting, I'd say it has another 1/2 inch to go. I was wondering all you guys with proper installs, did you experience, or do you still experience any extra noise from the shifter. Its almost sounds like a hollow tapping sound, but I dont feel as if it hits anything. By chance, can the SMC shifter be adjusted without going underneathe the car?

Thanks.

The shifter will eventually break in. But to help mine a I put Redline MT-90 on the ball once it was installed, let it soak in, with some mobil 1, and man it made it really easy!

You would defintely know if it was hitting that shield. You would hear a bang from the outside. 4th gear is the one and R that usually hit the shield if its too close. Pop it in those gears fast and listen for a metal sound.

Well, is there any way that it could be hitting it without such noises. Apparently, the shifter is alot noisier when you juggle the car in neutral, and when you are shifting. Can others confirm this?
