I35 times?

I've owned a 2002 I35 for a few months now, and was wondering if any owners here have run their's. I may be getting rid of the Z soon, due to tightening of the financial belt, and having 7 kids, so I may take the I35 a couple of times to see what it can do.

I know 5.5 Gen Maxima's have seen low 14's, and my I35 seems VERY strong with high miles. I have driven quite a few 5.5 Gens, and this I35 feels stronger than any auto I have driven. I am guessing at a low 14 with a trap around 98. It's quite a bit faster than my Armada, which ran a 14.9 during it's greener days. The Armada would probably run a mid 14 now.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had run their's, doubting that too many I35 owners would drag race. On the other hand, it probably won't be too hard to set a class best time.

Im pretty sure its right around the same time as a stock auto 5.5 gen. So I'd say in the 14.6 range. You wont get a 98mph trap.

I agree, if you're auto, I bet you'll be lucky to trap 95mph, but I could be wrong -- it all depends on the track prep & weather for the day.

Thanks for the input. I really think the VQ's get noticably stronger with miles, so I think a 97-98 mph trap isn't out of the question, but it does depend on the track and conditions. I want to make some passes with the Z on Thursday, trying to break my PB, so maybe I can get the wife to drive the I35 to the track, and I can get a couple of stock runs in. I'll post the results here if I go. The track I would be running at isn't known for high traps, but it is known for hook and low e.t.'s.

97-98 is what my 6spd trapped stock in good weather ~60F and pressure @ 30.1
You'd think an I35 automatic has to be a good 100-200lbs heavier...I guess I just don't like to get too optimistic beforehand, that way i'm not disappointed w/ what I really run??
Ah well, let us know how she does.

If you knew him, you would not be surprised at all...

Hi Warren. Long time no see. 7 kids now? The last time I saw you it was 5 kids I think. Keep the 350z long enough to run a 12, I know you have it in you...

I may go tonight for the first time in a long time. Looks like I will be leaving the I35 behind though. I think the Z has a 12.9 too, but right now finding decent gas, or gas at all, is a problem here.

I put in $60 worth of Exxon 93 last night, which my car has never liked, but it was the first station I have seen with premium in a few days.

We'll see how it does. Yeah, 7 kids. I'll pm you with a pic later. We are letting the Armada go soon, and have been looking for a Van.

VeeTec back in the maxima (I30) game! I'm sure you'll put down record times as usual I'm with you, I think VQs tend to get stronger as they get older as well.

7 kids - whoa... What ages are they? Having 7 kids has to be harder than getting a stock Z in the 12s lol

When I went to the track with my I35 I pulled 9.5s in the 1/8th mile which equates to around 14.6-14.85 depending on which calculator you believe

There was a guy at mission in a 02 I35t doing consistant 14.4s @ 95-97mph. i know this pulled a few high 2.0 60fts and nothing worse then a 2.1. He also had a built chevelle there, so i guess he was very familiar with the drag scene.

In my honest opinion, knowing what type of times you have pulled in cars, one would presume you are quite the driver. I am going to say you'll probably be able to squeeze a 14.3, but i honestly do not see a stock 4AT 3.5 pulling 99mph. I think you could pull a 14.3@97, if i had to guess. But id expect more along the lines of a 14.4-14.6@95-96

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully I will hit the track soon, with the I35. I'll probably go to Silver Dollar Raceway, when I do, since traps seem better there.

I ran a couple of 14.3's there with my stock 2001 GTP, with a trap close to 97. I think the temp was around 60 that night, back in 2004. The I35 feels a little stronger, especially up top, but it's hard to say until I run her.

Thanks again.

That time and the armada time. Those are both the fastest stock times for either the GTP or the Armada that I have seen. Must be a fast track.

Same here, especially since the I35 is a little heavier than a Maxima. Plus once we go into 3rd gear, it is a little tall which is probably why the 6 speed cars trap 3-4 mph higher on average.

Every car VeeTec has owned that's been raced at the strip has been a record breaker. He's got the skill and quick tracks to race at. I have no doubt his I35 will be a record breaker. If he says low 14s at 98mph, that's probably what it's going to do.

I don't doubt he knows how to get a car down the track but if we are talking about a completely bone stock I35 with an automatic (don't believe they even made any 6 speed ones), horsepower is the only thing, not skill, that will make it hit 98 mph through the traps. I don't think there is a completely stock 5.5 gen automatic that has exceeded 95 mph at the end of the quarter.

There are a couple of stock 5.5 gen 4ATs that have trapped in the 97mph range.
