I seen that thread. What is the advantage to having that installed? How is it installed? Sorry for being a newb, but I'm a little new to performance oriented modding ...

Advantage, you have a limited slip without having to buy a new trans. How, you have to split apart the trans and replace the stock unit.

doesn't seem very cost effective for the same thing as buying a LSD. I thought it might be much better in some way.

There are benefits to installing a Quaife over a stock RS5F05V, never having to worry about the viscous fluid losing it's effect is one.

For most people, it's not worth the high cost of both the diff itself and the installation. Unless you're constantly racing, be it autocross, road course, quarter mile, or you absolutely need to get the most power to the ground as possible, you're probably better off with a stock VLSD trans.

Quaife is about 8 trillion times more effective than the nissan VLSD is, but as stated it's not really something you need unless you're going to do a lot of racing.

I'm going to try to get a VLSD trans together in the next month or so to sell, I've got one sitting on the shelf right now in pieces. If you can wait, keep an eye on the for sale forum.

Are you rebuilding the VLSD? PM me when your ready to sell. I see your referring to it as VLSD now, same as LSD ???

I think I wouldn't really need the Quaife, I won't be taking my car to the track to benefit from those gains.

All VLSDs are LSDs, but not all LSDs are VLSDs. VLSD = Viscous LSD. Just like HLSD would mean Helical LSD, and so forth.

It's a type of limited slip...

Well, no USDM 4th gens came with limited slip at all. The I30ts came with VLSD, and the '01 AE had a VLSD. There are no OEM HLSD 5 speeds, only the RS6F51H 6 speed trans.

I have both a VLSD and an open diff transmission I'm going to put together to sell but I'm doing the open diff trans first because I already have all the parts for that. Still have to order stuff for the VLSD trans.

As stated by others all factory 4th gen LSD transmissons are VLSD transmissions. 5.5Gens came with an optional HLSD (helical LSD) in the 6 speed - not the same trans as the 4th gen trans obviously.
