Heat Shield Fix 2002 Max in NY

Hey guys how's it going? Unfortunately I have the dreaded heat shield rattling problem on my 2002. I've seen a few places and the estimates to have it re-welded have been outrageous. My friend who just went away to Iraq had the same problem and told me before he left, he paid about 40 to fix it. Does anyone know any good places to get this fixed around the five boroughs for around this price. Thank you.

Not to sure but after listening from the exterior the sound seems to be concentrated by the exhaust.

When does it make the noise- under a load? while revving up OR down? any specific RPM range??

revving up and down the exact rpm range is between 1800 rpms to right about 2000-2300rpms. Its just a really annoying rattle. My friend had the same sound and it turned out to be the heat shield.

I am having a rattling issue that seems to be exhaust-related too. I think it might be my flex pipe because the outer mesh part came out of the round part it used to be connected to, but I'm not sure because it sounds like it's coming more from the engine bay than under the car. Interested to know what you find out.

it might be cheaper/easier just to have it removed, granted that you don't drive over tall grass on a regular basis.
