Black roof and shark fins

I would like to thank IHAVEA2KMAXIMA for the black roof overlay. I finally got around to installing it and I absolutely love the look of it, I still have to finish it tomorrow, there is just a couple of bubbles I need to work out. I also installed some vortex generators (I call them shark fins, I watch too much Top Gear), So on with the pics....

Props go out to MOHFPro90....I have more battle wounds from your car then my own.

dang.. isn't there someone out there that can make those vortex generators all in one piece and 3m tape the bish onto our rear window? like the rear window spoiler..

Anyways.. its pretty nice, but one question, how come you chose to do the overlay? and why not carbon fibah? ahah

Aso, how hard was the overlay to install?

I could do a carbon fiber cloth overlay but I think that would be too much with my CF hood (not on the car cause I'm cleaning/repairing it) and eventually I hope to get a CF trunk.

The overlay is pretty easy to do, I followed a write up someone did that I found on the web for the g35 roof overlay.

I'll take some overhead shots tomorrow

Cool cool.. the CF trunk costs way too much for me, i have the CF hood and i think thats enough lol

Looking forward to the overhead shots.. i might want to do this. Possibly mod my car more aerodynamicaly wise.

Some mild CF carnards and sideskirt splitter would be pretty nice, depending on a car's overall theme.

I don't know much about the CF, but I don't think it would look natural on 5th gens either, we don't have a seam like 6th gens that seperate the roof from the rear quarter.

I have another project I am working on....here is a spoiler pic with my hairy leg...

Groosss.. but besides that, sexy cf lol jk

Is that the front lip? If you just epoxy resin it straight to the lip, wouldn't the plastic melt?

I'm overlaying the CF with 3m spray glue... then I will thin out the resin and spray it on and make a final coat with UV clearcoat

Yea really really strong 3m tape, I made a boo boo when I had to move one but you don't know.

I really was surprised at the VGs cause I was having second thoughts but once I did it, I liked it.

I wonder if I will like it when I loose the spoiler with the CF trunk. I want to do the CF spoiler but damn over 1k for the combo trunk/spoiler is too much, I can get a black spoiler for $130 or better yet overlay my current spoiler in CF.

I'm gonna follow dues with the front diffuser and the side skirt diffuser as well

I'm going much lower when I go coilovers, i can't clear a soda can with the new lip, so maybe another 1" couldn't hurt

I agree too, but I think the only reason this VG's work is because the spoiler adds to it.

A black spoiler on a CF trunk isn't bad tho, but once I drill holes there is no going back

Nice. The fins aren't really my thing but then again they mighyt really pop when u go spoilerless. I ditched the spoilered look when I went with the cf trunk and I'm never going back. I was thinkin of doing a half roof spoiler or vg since my cars so plain. But I think I'm just gonna go super plain and have my cf hood n trunk tinted darker so they don't stand out so much againt my black car.

I just did the skunk strip on my 89 sho silverish body with flat black hood roof n trunk. Honestly it was mainly boredom. But on some cars it doesn't look that bad. Good thing. I didn't use an overlay. I just spray canned and wetsanded. Gotta love pos cars. I don't have the guts to try stuff like that on my max

haha Yeah, I can always take this off if need be but I'm not like Josh (I kid I kid) and sell my maxima, I will always have this as a project. I would have my turbo saturn and supercharged T-bird if people didn't run red lights....

I got the idea from a subaru forum really, I was trying to find the measurements for that rear window spoiler they have cause i was gonna see if they fit on my car but came across a thread about the VG's

I like the overlay a lot. n3985 has one on his I35 and it looks slick as well. I'm thinking about it. I think it would look cool on my white I30, but the question is would it bubble up in SUPER hot weather? I'm from PHX, plus I guess the car would be a lot hotter... Does the vinyl fade over time or not really? Does it come off pretty cleanly?

Now to the VGs. I don't like them at all.... is there any effectiveness to it? Doesn't the spoiler change the aerodynamics anyways? If you wanted that shark fin look, i think you should've gone with a BMW 5 series fin or something that like. Plus you could probably fit a satellite radio- or GPS-antenna underneath it and make it functional!
