Went to the track for the first time. mad at outcome

i just got back from the strip for the first time and man it was fun.
haven't been around the drag scene before so seeing all those pro domestics and whatnot was pretty exciting.

although, i was quite dissapointed with my times. i was hoping for like mid 14's but i guess i was being too optimistic.

-mods: see sig
-removed spare tire, passenger, and all of rear seats.
-ran with DR mod and manual shifted with suprastick.

ran 5 times, best time was:

R/T: .330
60: 2.281
330: 6.435
1/8: 9.864
MPH: 72.44
1000: 12.766
1/4: 15.245
MPH: 90.22

i'm sorry but 15.2 is pretty darn pitiful IMO. seems like all the mods ive done was a waste. truthfully, i think i'm done modding my car now. i just can't get any faster unless i do something big like the 3.5 swap, FI, or na build which i wouldn't even think about doing. i think i'm gonna start saving my money for other things...

Daim! My completely stock 96 4gen ran a 9.8 in the 1/8 mile. 5speed. With that oovi and exhaust you should have done better.

Do a 5speed swap!

lmao, wow, im not laughing at you bro, its just funny cuz i feel the same way everytime i get home from the track!! your trap speed sucks for a 00vi, but guess what...mine does too! i have a mevi, with EU extended rev, and tuned, and i trap like 93. but dont forget, im a 5 speed also! its straight BS! on the way home from the track i try to come up with as many reasons as i can for how my times suck, to make myself feel better, so i know how you feel. been there, done that, still there.....

what were the track conditions?

yeh, with the 00vi and full exhaust, i figured i get a decent time but guess not.
i kno most of it has to do w/ the tranny but i'm not gonna rag on the auto too much considering what jime has done. but yeh, tonight at the track was kinda of a realization for me. even with all those mods, i was pretty stupid slow, beat a stock scion tc by like 1.5 car lengths, thats how slow.

it was like low 60 degrees at the track fyi

i'm pretty sure i'm not gonna do any more big projects with this car.
and no, i really don't want a v8 unless its like a vette, new m3, or something nice along those lines which i can't afford.

Sell your car and get a 5speed max. But get your shin up. It wasn't that easy for me to get a 9.8. When I first tried it I did like a 10.4 or something. You just need practice to get better time. I don't want to brag or say I'm a professional driver but I am preety good at shifting. I've been drivin 5speed for. Like 8 years now so I preety much got the hang of it.

You don't know the half of it! Ran my first time in '07, 14.3 @ 99MPH with a 2.6 60'! Broke out of my 14.5 dial in so I wasn't able to make any more runs. Made some more modifications (3" exhaust, SSIM, Reflash, intake, etc. etc.) Went to the track a few months ago expecting those 13s that I was robbed the first time I went. Best run of the night was a 14.6 @ 96MPH missing second and third along with a 2.5 60'. Clutch couldn't handle it!! Trust me! You don't know frustration. Now I have to wait LONGER because I have to replace this stupid clutch. The car has 13s in it! Just gotta keep on movin'!

G4nismo.... sure its running like normal man? no KS code or anything? i don't think those times seem right at all. even if you do have auto it shouldn't be that slow in the traps. what kind of gas you use?

i've raced alot this past year and it is quite frusterating when you run slower than expected. don't give up with it yet man. the car has alot of potential and you already put a lot of work into it. its got to be something minor that caused the slower run. i don't know man...just don't give up on it yet.

i mean the cel is on but last time i checked it was for the drop resistor.
i replaced my KS like 2years ago i believe and i always use 93 octane.

i dunno, it felt like i wasn't getting off the line fast enough, obviously.
but those times really got to me, i just don't know if i want to spend anymore time on this car. i mean its nice, spacey and looks good. i get a lot of compliments from people prob b/c i'm the only max like it in SC but the performance capabilities doesn't satisfy me. i would rather quit, choose a diff car w/ more potential and start from there...

a 5 speed swap will definitely make a difference man.. but aside from that, there's also probably something wrong with you car that's dragging you down.. whatever you do, DO NOT give up.. just find the problem.. my boy has an 00VI with a full exhaust and 5 speed, and he keeps damn close to me with my current mods (check my sig for mods).. i havent been to the track with my current mods, but before the headers, spacers and timing advance, i ran a 14.6.. so im thinking my boy should be in the low 14s somewhere, which should probably put you in the mid 14s.. swap your plugs, check your injectors as suggested, check your MAF...

I have the same setup, only without the Suprastick, and those times are right around average for our cars with that particular setup, according to the timeslip database.

And last time I was out (my first time too!) I ran a 15.3 @ 91mph on a very sh*tty track, so dont get too discouraged.

Keep practicing and get some good sticky tires, as it takes time to learn how to launch properly and keep traction simultaneously.

Oh, and I see you also have the heavy a$$ 17 inch alloy rims, just like me too....so im def not surprised now.

Try some steelies or lightweight rims (like im going to) and I bet you're in the high 14's, easy.

Good luck!

Ouch man thats painful. Dont worry, how do you think i felt, when i first dynoed with all my bolt ons and i put out a whopping 182whp. Its like, your pride yourself, drop money, and in return, your car kicks you square in the ********* with heels on and rubs it in after you drop to the ground.

Dont worry, if it gives you any hope, i re-dynoed and put out 200/195.

If i were you, id throw on some steelies. dropping rotating mass has much more of an effect then dead weight. Anything helps though.

Are you sure you have no KS codes, are you sure your VI is opening? VIAS Broken?

What type of CAI do you have? Whats full exhaust...y pipe or headers? If you have a y-pipe, are you sure your flex section hasnt collapsed? theres lots of things that can cause poor performance, a dyno would indicate if your truely putting out low power, or that track just sucked.

you gotta face it eventually man! i think you'll be good for low 14s as long as you get your launches straight.. thats what i've been haivng trouble with.. especially with the colder weather.. and if you get higher than that, just blame it on the clutch.. lol.. by the way, that was my boy that i was referring to in my last post

I have an immaculate Rio Red 99 mustang cobra that will take care of your go fast needs. It runs mid- low 12's on motor and 11.30s on a 125 shot. Car is clean as hell with some nice mods...

Here is what she sounds like.

I am asking $8500 FIRM for it. You can run 11's at the track the haul your buddies home in it with the ice cold ac on.... PM me if interested.

For all we know your VI isn't working and it's running rich from 5th gen injectors, I think you should def. be seeing better times than that no doubt. Get a cheap used afc and go to the dyno, that's my .02

hey im only an 45 minutes a way I could help you do a 5 speed swap or a 6 speed swap.
Iv had a turbo 6 speed for years. I do all my on work!

Your car should move faster than a 15.2. Just with the 00vi swap and some tune I could do like 14.4 or so once I got the eu catback and pulley I got it down to 13.7 at carolina dragway with a bad 60fter hell pm I may can help and i dont really want any money!
