Has anyone's tire pressure light came on yet?
So recently the weather has dropped in Georgia and my tire pressure light came on. I check the tires and they look fine, I've yet to take my car to the dealership so they can check it out, but I plan on doing it this weekend. Does anyone know why it came on, if it matters I have nitrogen in my tires. Thanks in advance.
Why would you take it to the dealer? Just because the tires 'look' ok, doesn't mean they're properly inflated. Do you have a tire pressure gauge? They're cheap, and a great investment. Just fill 'em up, the light should go off.

Just check them with an air gauge and inflate them to 35 or 36 psi.
My light did come on once but they were close to 30 psi. It had gotten cold and I was having trouble with my air pump for a few days beforet that. Finally I got them aired up to 36 psi which is what I normally run them on. The light went off after that. Not sure what the cutoff is for the light coming on but seems it is around 30 psi.

Yes, the recommended psi for the '09 is 33, just as it was for the 6th gen SL (6th gen SE was 32). I have always found I get more even tire wear (hence longer tire life), better control of my Maxima, and very slightly better MPG at 35 or 36 psi. I wouldn't go much above 37, as that makes the tire 'fill out/stand up' to the point the area in contact with the pavement becomes smaller than needed for optimum performance, and the harsher ride puts more stress on the suspension. 35 psi is an excellent compromise for all-around driving, and keeps you well above the TPMS cutoff (which is in the 28/29 psi area).

I picked my '09 up on Tues and was in the shop yesterday because the TPMS warning light wouldn't shut off. Tires (19"s) were all @ 36psi, but the warning light just would not go off (after getting the car over 16mph as the manual says).
Not sure what the problem was, the saleman was talking to me when I got the fob back from the guy and he took off.
Love the car so far anyway...drove a Jeep TJ for 10 years, so this is a drastic change for the better.

I'm assuming you got your Max from Gwinnett Place. I got my wife's Xterra from them a few months back and her light is on. I had Kauffman check the pressure & refill b/c the rears were a little low. They just topped off with regular air though. They also didn't have their tool to reset the TPMS, but the guy said it should go off with some highway driving... well we drove up to Nashville in her car and it didn't go off. I'm wondering if Nitrogen is as good as they say it is.

There is no question Nissan has had a few technical glitches with their TPMS. Word in Nissan circles back in '05 was that the TPMS would be added to the '06 Maxima, which would beat the '07 government -required TPMS deadline. But Nissan could not get things working right, so delayed TPMS until '07. But still it has given some trouble from day one.
I was disappointed Nissan did not come up with a TPMS that would actually be useful. Even if the current TPMS worked correctly, all it is telling you is that one of your tires (flip a coin?) may have dropped below 28 or 29 psi. For someone like me that often runs 36 or 37 in the front, that is not a very helpful system. I have installed little guage tips on all four valve stems that show red if my psi drops below 33 psi. I glance at them every time I approach or leave the car (unless it is raining or freezing, etc).
A proper TPMS will eventually be standard on all vehicles. It will display the actual psi of each of the four tires on the ground, as well as the psi of the spare. About the time this is working perfectly on all vehicles, pneumatic tires will be replaced with solid tires which will have no air pressure.
Such is progress in the automotive world.

I think that the Maxima TPMS is worth less.
I've got a bad sensor but don't know which one is bad.
I've checked my tires several times (once at 35 - then lowered to 33 psi cold) and the Warning light continues to come on. All tires stay within .5 psi for at least a week.
Dealer just resets it.

FYI - if the TPMS light comes on steady, the system thinks it has a low pressure condition. If it flashes for one minute at startup (then comes on steady), it is a malfunction indication. This is true for both 6.5G and 7G Maximas.

I'm still not sure why the hell Nissan didn't implement the same TPMS as found in the Infiniti line? My system is actually useful and tells you what tire's pressure is low. As upscale as Nissan has taken this generation Maxima, how much extra do you think it would have taken them to add the same system?
I agree I think the whole setup sucks when it does not tell you specifically what tire is low. I check my tires periodically anyway but you would have thought that they would have implemented a much more user friendly system in an upgraded Maxima.
I am mad as well because I forked out an extra $200 bones on some TPMS sensors to be installed in my new rims when they were shipped to me because they were recommended. I put my new rims on and I have to go to Nissan to have them sync the new TPMS sensors with the car, so now I have that annoying yellow light on.
But I do LOVE MY NEW RIMS!!!!
