TPS Sensors

Can the TPS tire sensors be ck at each tire from the outside with a reader.
I'm getting a blinking light for a minute and then a steady light with no real tire press issue. The manual say a TPS system failure. I really don't care to know if I have low tire press but the light is driving me crazy. I have no dash read out on this 08 max.to see what the tire press are or which sensor may be causing the problem.

Could be a sensor battery failure.

Did you get this fixed?

I have the same problem on my 2008 Maxima.

I took it to discount tire and they used a machine and scanned all tires and said the rear driver side tire has a problem. They took the tire off and it had a nail in it.

They fixed and siad my problem should be fixed.

Unfortunately, it is still doing exactly the same thing.

I will try and go there again and ask about this sensor battery failure.

How can one change this battery you guys are talking about?

Not fixed yet, waiting for next oil change.

No nails here and all press was okay. Nissan mentioned that there are batteries in the TPS's. I suppose u can determine which one is bad, assuming that the control system for the TPS's is okay. You have to breakdn the tire so what I'm hoping to do, if its a battery and assuming they can tell which one is bad, breakdn that tire only and when I get new tires change all of the batteries at that time. That will be another couple years. Hopeing it's only one.

Batteries can not be changed, you have to buy new sensors. Rock Auto has decent prices - but you can find better on ebay. I would avoid buying from China however. The other unfortunate thing is that the tires have to be dismounted, new sensors installed, tires remounted, and then the new sensors registered with the car's computer. I will wait until I need tires for this reason on my wife's 2007 Frontier.

Thanks, now I know. I thought all they would do is change a battery.

Who was the bright genius that came up with this sensor over a manual tire gage to ck air pressure in a tire? Yeah I'll wait until new tire day comes up and buy OEM sensors.

Did you register the sensors with the computer?

There is a learning procedure, you inflate your tires all to different pressure and drive at 50 mph for a few minutes. It's in the FSM.
IIRC, it's 26, 29, 32 and 35 psi, but don't hold me to it.

Dude, skip all the testing non-sense and goto your local name brand tire shop "tires plus, discount tire, Who-ever, whatever"... They will check it for you, FOR FREE! and if a senor is dead then it's your call to have them do it. I paid $45 for sensor and installation.

After I had one replaced the light came back on had them recheck it and reset the light since no other senor was out. since then, no more lights for me.
