Smoked clutch now shimmying on take off?

I was drive along when a souped civic pulled up next to me wanting to race.
So I took off in 1st cracked 2nd took the tach to redline then cracked 5th gear I dumped the clutch and noticed immeditly that the Maxima was not pulling like it should then I looked a the tach it was at 5000 rpm smoking the hell out of the clutch. (I still won the race) When I got home I could smell the burnt clutch really bad.

The car now shimmy's a little bit if I take off from a dead stop. If I take-off from a stop little faster than a normal take off you can't feel it shimmy.

What is usually smoked the pressure plate or the flywheel that cause the shimmy?

I plan on replacing the clutch/pressure plate/bearings with a stock Nissan OEM 350Z clutch or a Exedy replacement 350Z clutch. I really have don't have a need for a performance flywheel it is my wife's daily driver so I don't plan on replacing it. I

also heard you can't machine the oem flywheel?

Probably warped the clutch or flywheel, but usually thats from repeated abuse, or maybe you broke something in there did you hear any noise... and by shimy do mean like clutch chatter, like when you start taking off the car vibrates as the clutch is engaged

warped flywheel FTW

sounds like it is time for a new clutch anyway. you have two options, get a new flywheel or get the current one milled when the clutch is changed

I heard no poping or anything usual.

There is no clutch chatter noises when I take off now it just vibrates the front of the car a little when taking off from a dead stop. I was planning on replacing the clutch soon anyways I could tell it was getting weak.

Does anyone have a link to a write up (walk through) on clutch replacement in a 5.5 gen maxima?

I thought the Maxima flywheel weren't machineable? I have read multiple post stating this.

I dont see any reason why it wouldnt be machinable but i have no personal experience so you probably want to do some more research of your own.

If you are planning on changing your clutch yourself i would suggest getting your self a factory service manual

The stock flywheel can be machined but it can be tricky finding a machine shop that will do a dual mass flywheel like on the 02/03. That's something to make sure of before the car gets taken apart.

Sounds like it's time for a Fidanza flywheel.

You glazed your clutch. Also you might have to buy a new pressure plate. Don't bother getting your flywheel machined, just get a new one. Just need to remove the starter gear ring assembly. Its a bit tough to bust that ***** off.

When you have all that stuff off, check out the rear main seal and make sure it's not sweating, might want to replace that while you have access.

I guess someone didn't read the rules. Let me refresh your memory:

* Street-racing, kills, and reckless driving threads are NOT allowed. This is an automatic 1-month BAN for basic posts on the subject. Penalties may be more severe depending on the severity of illegal and/or dangerous actions posted about.
Hope you solve your clutch problem, but that's what you get for street racing. And you get something else too: an automatic 1-month ban. Keep that crap to yourself.
