Radio changing stations by itself

I was driving today and the radio station suddenly changed without me touching anything. The first time it happened I put it down to me hitting the steering wheel button accidentally, but then it happened again and I'm sure I didn't touch anything that would cause that. The steering wheel buttons don't seem to always work, so I'm wondering if some kind of malfunction in the buttons is causing this issue. Anyone else seen anything like this?

That's odd but I am having issues with my bose system. Seems as if the volume level goes up and down while driving. I do know that there is a volume sensor but I don't know why it would go up and down while driving?

My first thought is that it's the steering wheel buttons. They have a tendency to malfunction, and my guess is whatever causes them to not work when they're pressed is causing them to do things without being pressed. In my case it changes the station, but in your case it changes the volume. Oddly I've never had a problem with the cruise control buttons.

buttons could be bad, or the clock spring could be bad as well.

My radio does the same thing and it started after a minor driver's side corner accident. Could also be the steering wheel buttons as mine only work some of the time.

I'd have to guess it's probably the latter cause. I can't see a minor accident causing a radio to malfunction like that.

BOSE systems man what a joke! I am stuck with it for now but eventually my Alpine CDA 7995 will make it's way in to that spot! Along with my JL Audio Amp. Until then I am stuck.

My car used to do it to. Turns out it was haunted. We performed an exorsism on my car and it hasn't done it since....

On a serious note, I do believe its the steering wheel controls. I remember reading somewhere that you just have to replace the button assembly. Same with the people who's cruise control doesn't work. Mine turns on but will not set the cruise speed.

assuming you have a 2000+ i30/i35: You'll need to obtain a set of security bits. (Google it, useful to have laying around) look around the back side of the wheel and pop off the two circular dime sized covers, unscrew, remove the airbag, and the rest is simple.

Was hoping to not have to pull the bag to deal with the controls. But it is what it is, thanks!

its called SCV/SSV or speed control volume/speed sensitive volume, the faster you go, the louder it gets, and when you slow down the volume decreases, you can turn it of, using the tune feature of the stereo.

I'm not sure if the I30 has this feature. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

You should replace your head unit, BOSE is NOT what they appear to be. They're very good at marketing. Throw a McIntosh head unit in it :P, just kidding...

If this starts a war about BOSE see the site below first:

Grounds galore

Check the various assundry of cab, engine, transmission grounds. Add 1AWG wire from battery neg. to engine and cab. Nissan/Infinity did a choppy job at best at grounding things. May not fix this particular problem, but all electronics like more ground, so worth a try and will save you a lot of headaches in the future. As a general rule, I add accessory grounds to every vehicle I buy before I do anything else.
