Next is a GREDDY SP2

Ok guys I need more help...Week by week I've been buying parts and puting them in my basement so when the spring time comes around I'll be ready to roll with my Max. This week it looks like I'll be getting my hands on a Greddy SP2 cat back. My question is if I hook it up with a Y pipe will my Max sound like a Harley Davison? My current OEM exhaust looks like it won't last pass this winter so I might as well get the Greddy but If I sound like a Harley I'll pass on the Y pipe.

One more question what kind of sound will I get with just the Greddy? OEM? A bit deeper tone?

alot of those clips need to be updated or deleted cause they dont even work. greddy is decent dude, you have to get used to it, and the sound changes after a week cause the resonater mellows out the muffler a little. makes it a little quieter.

With a y-pipe and SP2, it's not gonna sound anything like a Harley, but it's gonna be loud as ****. Louder then you want it to be. The GReddy SP2 alone is probably 1 of the best, if not the best sounding catback for the 4th gen. You really have 3 chances.

1. If your going for just sound, get the SP2 without the y-pipe.
2. If your going for performance just get the y-pipe and get an exhaust system similar to stock.
3. If you want both the y-pipe and the SP2, you'll have a crazy loud exhaust that'll get annoying after a while, and the 5-0 will be on your tail constantly.

Choose wisely.

I'm after looks and a little sound...If it wasn't for my OEM system giving out I would had been happy with a chrome tailpipe.

I've heard the SP2 with and without y-pipe. Without it's very smooth and mellow. With it sounds raspy with quite a bit of resonance.

With y-pipe:

Need equal length y-pipe (Stillen or custom) or get the Cattman headers to get the best of both worlds (power and sound).

wow lots BS in this post. I have a Budget Ypipe hiflo cat and SP2, first of all no where near a harley sound. Some what Zish, but not really. There is some rasp. Second of all on start up its a bit loud, but not obnoxious by any means. Once the motor is warmed you can barely hear it. On highway cruises it is just slightly louder than stock. I have had several people tell me how quiet my car is. 5-0 won't even bat an eye at me because of how quiet my car is.

I have a friend with a ypipe, and a custom 2.5" catback with a flowmaster muffler, it is a lot louder than my setup.

SP2 is one of the quietest exhausts out there. Paired with cattman headers it sounds fantastic!! Really at the end of the day though I would look elsewhere because of fitment issues with the SP2. Low hanging bpipe and banging against the gas tank.

All y-pipes are unequal length except the original Stillen and custom made. The Cattman headers and y-pipe combination are also as a unit.

Fitment issuses? Low hanging bpipe and banging against the gas tank? I'm not liking the sound of that. Anyone having that problem?

if you have a SP2 you will have a low hanging bpipe.

Yep the SP2 does hang low on the Bpipe section but its not really that back. My car is lowered and I barely scrape a lot of things on the road and mostly because I am careful on how I drive.

Let me clear some things up as i've been an owner of the SP2 since 06.
1) It is NOT loud. If you think its loud... try driving a V8 with headers... and hell that isnt even that loud. Heads and Cam V8... then ur getting loud. SP2 on a maxima... NOT loud. But dont get me wrong... it is loudER then stock obviously.
2) Rasp... i guess theres rasp, and I hate rasp... but somehow I love the sound of the SP2... but this is just my opinion.
3) I honestly found little difference in sound before and after adding a budget y-pipe. I noticed even less change in sound when I dropped my main cat for a test pipe. I now have no cats, and i can bearly hear my car is on from the back when its warmed up and idling.
4) The b-pipe does hang low, i cant lie about that. However my car is lowered 2 inches on S-tech springs and I never bottom out my b-pipe. I do drive carefully tho. And bout hitting the gas tank... tho this does happen once in a great while, its never anything i worried about.
5) I am now on my 3rd chicago winter with this cat-back and it still sparkles like new... SS FTW.

I would def recommend this cat-back, esp since u can probably pick up a used one for cheap... and this thing has lasted great so far for me.

I've been an sp2 owner since 05 and I would also like to say that it is NOT loud. Ignore anyone who is telling you it is loud, they have no idea what they are talking about. I have a straight exhaust, from headers to muffler and cruising on the highway I dont even notice it is there. Road noise from my tires is more noticeable. WOT it is of course much louder, but for daily driving I'd rate it fairly mild on sound.

The b-pipe hang is something that bothered me to no end. Finally I decided to cut it up/weld and fix what Greddy obviously didnt take the time to properly engineer. I'd get rid of the exhaust if I didnt think I had to spend a grand to get the next best thing (cattman).

Hmmm, my SP2 isnt loud at all. As a matter of fact, I originally had the Apexi WS and picked up the SP2 locally to sell. I figured since I had it, I would install it to see how it sounded. I didnt really notice much of a difference, maybe a little deeper but nothing dramatic enough to make me pull it out so I then just sold the Apexi catback. That was with a Budget Y pipe, I now have the Cattman header setup. I also run a straight pipe.
As far as the low hanging B pipe, I dont seem to have that either. Ive never scraped it. My Apexi hung a lower then this one. I purchased new hangers and have been fine ever since.

the bpipe hanging low doesn't bother me much. It may bother others. I'm quite low on my coilovers, and I believe the lower you go the more the bpipe starts to bang against the tank, which it doesn't do all the time, but over severe bumps you can hear it clank against it.

One thing I do recommend is get some OEM gaskets, and try and find a good gasket that the bpipe and muffler section bolt together. The Greddy gasket recently on mine disinegrated and was giving me a leak. I couldn't find a gasket that would fit so I just said to hell with it and ran it without, it's not leaking now, but if you can find a quality gasket that fits I would throw one in there.

wow. story of mah fkin LIFE. I cant tell you how many gaskets I've been through with this crap. There is little more annoying than an exhaust leak. I'm going to get some oem asap.

ya I couldn't find a gasket where the bpipe and muffler bolts together. I'm sure an exhaust shop has them, but I don't know how good the quality is. I did replace both catalytic converter gaskets when I put my hiflo on with OEM ones. The cat gasket looks like it will fit where the bpipe and muffler bolt together but it does not.

Your local dealer should have them. I would highly reccomend using those.

That's probably the cheapest you'll find for a SP2. Grab it.

Nah I don't have the part numbers. If you just call them and describe which gaskets you need, they should be able to bring them up no problem. The only gasket I would recommend OEM rather than genuine Nissan is the flange (where it connects to the exhaust manifold) because the OEM rings are slightly thicker than the Nissan rings. I also use high temp RTV on all my exhaust gaskets for peace of mind.

I guess good things comes to those who wait...I got a fantastic deal yesterday on the Greddy SP2, $380 shipped.

Any last tip on installing this? Just a direct bolt on to the OEM cat?

it should be direct bolt-on but if your bolts are rusted your going to have a helluva time getting the stock one off.

Thanks to Group5 Motor Sport out of San Diego CA for selling me a brand New SP2 system for $380 shipped to Boston.

Just got it this past Monday in a not so big box. Pipes not as chrome as pictured.

Just got my SP2 installed and to my disappointment, I hate how the B pipe hangs....What a eye sore ....Hoping once I drop the car it won't be that noticeable. I also wish the tail pipe would stick out more but no big deal.

Sounds great with a Y pipe and megaflow cat.

OT: Will I pass emissions test?
