I'm in the middle of replacing my power steering pump and I'm having a heck of a time positioning the new pump between the bolt holes (see red circle in the picture). There just doesn't seem like there's enough room between the bolt holes. I can get one side of the pump in, but then can't get the other side in and vice versa. Is it suppose to be this difficult or is it suppose to slide in easily?

There is a bushing in the mount on the engine block that moves. The long bolt in the circled pic goes through it.

You need to knock that bushing back with a drift or hammer or such to give yourself some more clearance for the pump to mount.

 

Are you talking about the gold "bushing" inside the bolt hole?

I tried punching the bushing back in by using many long tools and a hammer, but given the tight space and angle, I wasn't able to hammer in the brass bushing.

For those who also haven't had any luck with the hammer, this is what worked for me. Take a 12mm deep socket. The length of which will be slightly less than the gap between the two bolt holes where the power steering pump is fastened (see diagram with red circle above). Place the socket between the two holes and place the short end of a mini crowbar (see attached pic) between the socket and the inside face of the bolt hole closest to the wheel well. Then use the crowbar to push the socket into the bushing which will push the bushing into hole. Went in real easy!
