OK I figured out how to adjust the clutch freeplay...

You unscrew a 12 mm nut on the threaded pushrod of the clutch pedal. Then you just screw/unscrew it depending on how you want to adjust it. The FSM calls for the freeplay to be between 9-16 mm. I adjusted my freeplay today, and now its just about perfect. The ACT clutch no longer has 2 inches of freeplay, and no longer engages right at the floor. So the drivablity of the car has much improved. Yes, I bled the clutch system before I did this. However, its wierd, once in a while the clutch pedal will loose all its freeplay and tighten up. Why this does this is beyond me. I will continue to monitor this to see if I can find a pattern. If anybody can shed some light i'm all eyes.

cool

I wanted a lower clutch engagement. I have the cjiltons andhaynes but never tried it before. Now I can get all my cars to be more consistent...I have a 90 accord-clutch is kinda low, 89 323 and 626-clutches are perfect, and the Max- clutch is too high.

Yeah I think I got it adjusted good now. I have it so that when the clutch decides to make itself hard, there is still 1/2" of freeplay before the pedal starts to get stiff. So this would mean the clutch is definately engaged. When the pedal decides to soften up, the release point and stiff point still are in pretty good locations. I also tried nailing the gas in all gears at different RPMs and it has not slipped one bit. I think I found a happy median. Damn clutch with a mind of its own.

ok i have brought back a thread from the dead

i'm curious, but when you adjusted it, basically what hapenned is that the clutch is forced to only come back towards us a certain amount. A bolt specifies this amount. Now you adjusted it so the bolt pushed out more and pressed against the clutch pedal sooner. This way the pedal cannot come back all the way.

Doesn't this make the clutch not get fully disengaged? Does the clutch automaticcaly re adjust itself to the given pedal limits? Meaning just like an STS, you can make the pedal have a "short throw"?

Thanks

I adjusted my clutch not to long ago. That sucker had to have had 1" of freeplay. When I adjusted the clutch pedal back to spec it felt like the clutch had a much broader engagment area than before.

If you want to try a freaky clutch drive the 6-spd CL-S with it's "self-adjusting" clutch. To me it felt like the engangement point changed everytime you shifted. Great gearbox though.
