power delivery characteristics on 5.5 auto?
power delivery characteristics on 5.5 auto?
Ok, i haven't ridden in or driven anyone else's 5.5, so I can't compare..
the way mine behaves is, lots of torque in 1st gear, violent wheelspin upon applying throttle, will chirp into 2nd...haul *** through most of 2nd. and then around 50mph it just gets pretty weak. It keeps accelerating, just not very fast. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of top end on this car
Sound about right?
Car is basically stock, just has GAB/OOSCAI, GReddy power extreme exhaust, and no precats.

Mine pulls hard all the way through second, third gear is a bit long so initially it can feel a touch soft right after the shift (manually shifting at redline instead of the automatic doing it at 6200 rpm or so does help) but then it picks up again. There is still a noticable surge even when accelerating from 100 mph.
And yes, the wheelspin in first can be a pain. Even at a 15 mph roll I often get wheelspin when I nail the gas. Got to be careful on quick right hand turns to not spin hard or the transmission quickly upshifts into second. On left turns, you can start sliding straight if you hit the gas too hard.
The wheelspin was a bit fun at first but 17" tires aren't cheap!

Really? That doesn't make any sense, because power is great in 1st and 2nd gear.. its when the car gets moving over 50mph where power drops off.
Maybe its worth a try though.. I've spent over an hour searching on all the different MAF topics and a couple of things confuse me. There are people whose MAFs have failed and they have weird idle issues and cars that wont rev past a certain RPM that buck a lot, and then there are some that experience hesitation that perform the loss of power TSB ..
I'm assuming i'd be in the latter group? Which solution will improve my situation?
1. get the TSB done, replace maf and ecu reprogrammed
2. or get the 2k1 MAF and replace the thermistor? Can i do this without reprogramming the ECU?
Thanks!

yes I'm using premium. Car is manufactured in 01/02, and oddly enough there are no markings on the MAF tube to tell me which maf i'm using.
Yes, a dead spot in 3rd explains it perfectly. Maybe I am used to the power.. I used to have a 500+rwhp z32 so I guess I'm a bit spoiled.

There is a slight flat spot on mine but it's up around 85 mph. At the track during the 1/4 mile I went thru @ 93 mph with the selector in D, next time I'll try 3rd or if my nuts feel big enough I'll Manually shift it!!! I'm kinda of scared of making an error on such a nice running daily driver......

The car might be faster then you think. If I concentrate on the gauge when accelerating I usually get disappointed, but if I keep my eyes on the road it feels faster. I'm guessing since the speedo is a bit larger it appears that the needle is moving slower then other cars I have owned/driven.
