i changed the plugs in my 97, now it has to warm up before i can put it in gear
i recently changed the plugs in my max from the bosch plugs that were in there when i bought the car to NGK V-Power plugs. i dont know what type of bosch plug it was. anyways, now i have to wait till my car warms up (6-7 minutes or so before i can put it in drive or reverse or it will stall out. could this be due to the inferiority of the v-power to the bosch plug that could have maybe been a platinum plug. should i go with the oem ngk laser platinum plug. will that solve my problem? before i changed the plugs i could start her up and just go if i wanted to no matter how cold it was thanks in advanced for everyones thoughts, comments, and advice. i have also noticed a decreace in gas mileage since then.
bosch in the first place i think was a wrong move..and i think bosch only come in platinum double platinum and the tri and quad plug types..but i would take the v-powers out a go with the ngk iridium or the laser plats and see if their is a diff i ahave the iridium in my 95 5spd and they are doing pretty well
I didn't have any problems with the copper plugs. I gapped mine to .044, noticed no difference between coppers and plats. Check the gap of the plugs and, if you haven't done so recently, clean the TB and IACV.
Whats wrong with Bosch? I have had no problem with them in any of my cars and my families cars. BUT, I did do all this when I was a n00b and know fathoms more now than then and next time will go with the NGK's.
If the car won't go into gear to me that would be a fluid problem. How cold is it when you first start up. I've experienced that problem in the past with other cars I owned (my Saab 9000S and Dodge Daytona ShelbyZ). For the Maxima the first thing I did when I bought it was put in some Redline MT90 fluid.
i have always known bosch to be more of a euro plug than a import i had it in my mb c240 bmw 323i and as i worked in a autoparts we never offered the bosch to a domestic or import cutomer only the euros got them and that what the system recomended
The Nissan tech in KCMO recommended I change out the Bosch's due to (his words) "their short life and the NGK's being a better plug for our cars." I haven't looked back since.

DoubleOMax, now that I think about it you're right. I'm retired Army (spent 9yrs in Germany) and they always put Bosch plugs in my Saabs, Volvo and Audi and the last time in my 97 Max. I only stopped using them around 2000 after I returned from my last overseas tour.

Clean the TB and IACV. If that doesn't stop the stalling, check the resistance of the ECT while it's cold. You can search this site for the proper readings.
The plugs are not your problem.

I would check the sparkplug gaps to make sure. Also, copper plugs require high voltage to fire. Maybe the coils are weak. Do you still have the old plugs around? You can put them back in to see if the problem follows the new plugs, and fixed with the old plugs. If the problem is still there with the old plugs, then you can go over the engine to see if there is any lose vacuum line or electrical plugs.
Did you do anything else when changing the plugs? I.e. clean throttle body, PVC valve, change airfilter, clean MAF sensor, etc? Adding fuel cleaner? Refuel at a different gas station?
