How many miles before Inspection after resetting ECU?
How many miles before Inspection after resetting ECU?
I reset my ECU [disconnected battery for a couple of hours] because I got the infamous p0430.
How many miles do I need to drive in order for the ECU to be completely re-cycled and I could go get an inspection.
Mine is overdue in Dec 08, So I need to do this ASAP
Thanks

Driving this drive cycle should run all diagnostics. Do it twice to make sure and you should be golden...Depending on how often or where you drive it could take from 1-2 days to a month for all tests to run.
TAKEN FROM ALLDATA::::
DRIVING PATTERN
The time required for each diagnosis varies with road surface conditions, weather, altitude, individual driving habits, etc. Zone A refers to the range where the time required, for the diagnosis under normal conditions*, is the shortest.
Zone B refers to the range where the diagnosis can still be performed if the diagnosis is not completed within zone A.
*: Normal conditions refer to the following:
Sea level
Flat road
Ambient air temperature: 20 - 30°C (68 -86°F)
Diagnosis is performed as quickly as possible under normal conditions. Under different conditions [For example: ambient air temperature other than 20 - 30°C (68 - 86°F) ], diagnosis may also be performed.
Pattern 1:
The engine is started at the engine coolant temperature of -10 to 35°C (14 to 95°F ) (where the voltage between the ECM terminals 70 and 58 is 3.0 - 4.3 V ).
The engine must be operated at idle speed until the engine coolant temperature is greater than 70°C (158°F) (where the voltage between the ECM terminals 70 and 58 is lower than 1.4 V) .
The engine is started at the fuel tank temperature of warmer than 0°C (32°F) (where the voltage between the ECM terminal 92 and ground is less than 4.1 V ).
Pattern 2:
When steady-state driving is performed again even after it is interrupted, each diagnosis can be conducted. In this case, the time required for diagnosis may be extended.
Pattern 3:
The driving pattern outlined in *2 must be repeated at least 3 times.
Pattern 4:
Tests are performed after the engine has been operated for at least 17 minutes .
The accelerator pedal must be held very steady during steady-state driving.
If the accelerator pedal is moved, the test must be conducted all over again.
*1: Depress the accelerator pedal until vehicle speed is 90 KPH (56 MPH) , then release the accelerator pedal and keep it released for more than 10 seconds . Depress the accelerator pedal until vehicle speed is 90 KPH (56 MPH) again.
*2: Operate the vehicle in the following driving pattern.
Decelerate vehicle to 0 KPH (0 MPH) and let engine idle.
Repeat driving pattern shown below at least 10 times.
During acceleration, hold the accelerator pedal as steady as possible.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the EGR system SRT is set.
*3: Checking the vehicle speed with GST is advised.
Suggested Transmission Gear Position for A/T Models
Set the selector lever in the "D" position with the overdrive switch turned ON .
Suggested upshift speeds for M/T models
Shown below are suggested vehicle speeds for shifting into a higher gear. These suggestions relate to fuel economy and vehicle performance. Actual upshift speeds will vary according to road conditions, the weather and individual driving habits.
Suggested Maximum Speed in Each Gear
Downshift to a lower gear if the engine is not running smoothly, or if you need to accelerate.
Do not exceed the maximum suggested speed (shown below) in any gear. For level road driving, use the highest gear suggested for that speed. Always observe posted speed limits and drive according to the road conditions to ensure safe operation. Do not over-rev the engine when shifting to a lower gear as it may cause engine damage or loss of vehicle control.
Gear KPH (MPH)
1st 50 (30)
2nd 89 (55)
3rd 128 (80)

i had a friend with a gutted cat that would reset his ecu before he had to pass emissions. his main cat would show up "not ready" on the printout. I think it probably depends on your state but i guess here in utah "not ready" is good enough to pass
I live in Canada and we dont have to pass any tests if a car is not older than 12 years. Even then you only have to do a safety for insurance purposes. The only time you have to do emissions test is if you move to another province. (our equivalent to states). Which means I can do anything I want to the car and I will never have to get it inspected unless I switch insurance companies or move to another province.
well here is my problem, I have an intermittent P0430 and i had reset my SEL light a couple days before it was due, HOWEVER I did not drive much and I think only 4 of my ready monitors was set, and I did not pass OR fail, they just gave me a certified extension and I was told to to come back ON OR BY THE 22nd of July. Now I managed to get all my ready monitors set to seven, however I think I only drove about 20 miles
OK HOW MANY READINESS MONITORS ARE THERE PLEASE?

well see the problem is I purchased a precat already and had it stolen out of a garage along with my rimes, car stereo equipment and some other things, and Didnt get a chance to have it installed. If I fail tomorrow then Ill be doing that
Also djfrestyl where did you purchase your precat from?
I had to actually do this last year. My inspection guy is cool as hell. When you reset, you have 4 incompletes. In texas you can only have max of 2 incompletes for catalyst. Reset your ECM, do not turn your car off, drive 25-36 miles, if u go beyond 36 miles light may come back on. Remember not to turn off your car when you get there, have em plug away, you should be good.
i reset mine and managed to get 7 readiness monitors with NO p0430 light and no pending codes...I will go tomorrow morning since Im do on the 22nd of June.......when I went 3 weeks ago, I did pass or fail, they just told me my readiness monitors weren't set and to come back, they even gave me my 15 bucks back
i passed with a not ready as well. i had a p0147 and the guy i bought the car from cleared the codes before he sold me the car, passed the emissions as not ready, and then what do you know a few days later, the SES light came on.
whatta moron, but i already got my revenge when i laced the check with lead.

On the other hand though, when I bought this car, it also had a SES...however that was only a $20 fix (P1800).
So I've learned when car searching, don't just scan for codes...check to see if the readiness tests are complete. If they're not and no codes, the seller may have just reset the ECU.
I don't know how it is for other states, but I know NYS inspections require all but 1 or 2 monitors for an OBD pass. Evap usually sets last. When I need to perform drive cycles at work I can usually get cars to pass within the first 5-10 miles, it all depends on the manufacturer (fords tend to set pretty quickly).
