97 I30t totalled..should I buy back?

Hey Guys,

I got hit by an idiot and their insurance it's totaling my car. It's not that bad, driver door and fender need replacement, front bumper needs paint. Also the strut and control arm might need to be changed.
Pics later....

If I buy it back I would like to part it out. Does anyone know how to get rid of a car w/o motor and transmission?
Im in VA close to DC, so just wondering if I should bother to part it out.

Thanks.

You could probably call one of the many auto recyclers they may not pay you to take it but will get rid of the body. My GFs dodge recently crapped out and none of the junk yards would even take it for free but I called a local recycler and they came and took it away for free. Yet about 2 years ago when my other car crapped out (yet another dodge) the same recycler came took it and paid me for it. The price of steel has dropped drasticaly in the last year so it's not economical for them to pay you for it but most will take it. BTW we both drive Nissans now

You can get $800 for that tranny, probably more than it will cost to buy the whole car back.

Doesnt look too bad. How can that be considered totalled? Looks like it needs a fender and a door. Too bad you dont live in Dallas. Ive seen 3 of these in the junkyards here...in that Black Emerald color. Got my trunk off of one of them for $50 with the center taillight .

umm that's cheap for a trunk, the color it's dark green.
The door isn't squared at all, might be a little frame damage they say.
Oh well I'm taking the money and running...new max or G?

how about spending 500-1000 in getting it repaired, selling it and use that money to buy even more car for the money?

Door - $150 from junk yard
Fender - $75 from junk yard or aftermarket
Paint and labor to replace - $400

Knowing you got more money in your pocket now...PRICELESS.

LOL

Hey guys,

good news they sold me the car for cheap so I'm keeping it and fixing it up.
My Coilover got bent from the accident so I'm putting stock suspension, anyone know where I can get one front k-sport coilover?
I'm going to call some junjyards for parts, and might even buy a new car with the money.

sorry no parts..

Insurance sucks. All they do is rip of people. If you look at the fact, long ago, there was no insurance and if there was one it wasn't necessary yo sign up for it. Now it is illegal to drive without insurance, except Russia or something corrupted like that, and you pay crazy money. And the government makes sure that no one sees that. People need to create something to avoid that kind of rip off, I am sure that you can save up your own money to fix your car after any sort of collision or break.

Insurance was not made mandatory for just the car damage. It covers the actual medical expenses that you might occur. Have you ever spent a day in the ER? LOL It will cost you more than your house. Be happy that paying 50 bucks a month keeps you safe and you keep your house too

I got in accident and I have almost the same damage as luigi38 has. Insurance totaled my car and said all they can pay me is $3500 for repair or $5500 and they keep the car.

take the money and ask them how much do they want for the car.
and offer them less money that what they ask, the save money by not taking the car from you.
that's what I did, that is why Im keeping the car.

Time to fix this ride up.
