How hot does the muffler tip get?

I'm asking because after my muffler tip fell off http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=77958. I thought about arc welding it on, but it came to my realization that I wouldnt be able to get to the top of the muffler. I also have never welded a muffler and the metal is relatively thin compared to what I'm used to, so I'll probably wind up blasting holes in the tail pipe. And, unless I do the weld perfectly it may leak a little even though the tip slips tightly over the tail pipe. So I thought how else could I seal the thing. JB Weld I thought! JB weld works up to 600 degrees and should be able to hold the tip in place. How hot does the exhaust tip get anyway? I cant imagine it being more then 600 degrees. I'll do this project tomorow so I can give both surfaces a good cleaning and scuffing.

it won't get up to 600 degrees F so you're fine with JB Weld

I doubt that JB Weld would last very long on an exhaust tip. If you have a welder, I would suggest taking the muffler off of the car to weld it. Turn the welder down to 60-75 amps, use small(3/32 or smaller) rods, and practice on something of similar thickness before you try it.

Or just take it to a muffler shop and let them do it.
