VQpower.com - 04-08 Progress Rear Sway Bar

Ever had the rush of coming into a tight bend and get yourself knocked into the door panel with the body lean of your $30k vehicle? The 2004-2008 6th generation Maximas tend to be plagued with a significant amount of body roll due to the larger size, heavier weight, and higher stance. This where a larger sway bar comes into play.

First, it is important to understand a few points about the functionality of an anti-sway bar. A sway bar couples the suspensions on each side to each other, and relative to the chassis. If you could put the car up on a lift and actually compress the suspension on one side by hand, then a sway bar makes the compression of one side also try to compress the suspension on the other. The Progress Group states, "Progress anti-roll bars dramatically improve handling. How? They minimize the traction-robbing body "lean" that rolls part of the outside tires off the pavement." "Our Sport-tuned Anti-roll bars replace skinny OEM bars and rubber bushings with larger diameter (stiffer) alloy steel bars and polyurethane bushings. More roll stiffness means less body "lean", and the tires stay flatter on the pavement (larger contact patches). The result is more grip and added driver control!" This is where VQpower comes in and challenges these statements with a set of tests and product evaluations. Stick around and see what improvements Progress has made on the handling of ol' wobbly.

I think I may need something like this... Down south we tend to have alot of curves up and down the interstate and even in normal city driving since this is country area. Someone @ AutoZone told me to get an underdrive pulley... this isnt the same as the sway bar is it?

No, Those are two completely different aspects of the car one being an engine part and the other suspension.

If they told you to get an underdrive pulley, that person that works at autozone needs to be fired.. a rear anti-sway bar is for sharp cornering perfect for your down south curvy roads you said, it isn't gonna have any affect to up and down roads.. Shift_Nissan Team Boston Red Linerz..

I have the following products on my 08 from Racingline Performance: FSTB, Front & Rear endlinks (v2). I also have the chassis brace from Truax Motorsports and have Eibach lowering springs (F: 2.0" & R: 0.8"). I am also considering (long term) replacing the rest of my suspension as well with aftermarket struts / shocks to assist with the rest of my suspension.

Will this rear sway bar still work with the set up I have?
Will this rear sway bar still work with the set up I'll be getting at a later date??

For cfr, yes this will work perfectly with your current setup and future modifications.

07whitey, yes they are the same product.

So I went to Autozone today, got some wiper blades and asked about Phillipe who told me to get an underdrive pulley instead of a sway bar... turns out he did get fired!!

Anyway I think I'll get the pulley for the engine when I get my belts changed and the sway bar now that I understand the dynamics of both. I want to get a front sway too... this will definitely help with performance...

The difference in handling is quite noticeable. It allows you to take turns much more aggressively, without fear of that horrible body roll.

That's awesome to see that you and your hubby are both Maxima enthusiasts. I to you both.

IT IS AN EXTREME DIFFERENCE IF YOU LOWER YOUR VEHICLE..I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS SWAY BAR...
I consider the sway bar, lowering springs, strut bar, and endlinks an excellent suspension upgrade for anyone who is just looking to improve yours cars handling without breaking the bank...and going into more advanced suspension modifications...

What is the general consensus on the best sway bar for my car?
I have an 05 Maxima SE with no mods yet... but I do like the idea
of less body roll.

Will a Pulley make much of a difference on a CVT? I'm just not sure about power gains from a regular transmission opposed to a CVT... or if it has anything to do with anything.

Just installed my progress rsb and racingline fstb. What a difference. The first few days I found myself leaning in anticipation of the roll that wasn't coming

Hi, (I'm new here)..thanks for the info. on sway bars. In my quest for a 6gen my question is this regarding ride quality: it's my understanding that SE's have a tighter sport tuned suspension whereas the SL's are more "plush" for lack of a better word. Would adding a better sway bar improve upon an SL's handling similar to an SE. I ask being that as of late in the NJ/NY area there seems to nothing but SL's on the lots these days.

Believe it or not, but I found a rear sway bar for my Max on ebay, was a Stillen bar from 2006, still had the receipt in the box! It did change the handling some, the SE bars are better than the SL bars, so for SL owners they will notice more of a difference than us SE owners.

AC problems with the fan

This might not fall under the current topic but it won't let me start a thread so sorry if it throws anyone off, I have a 04 max 3.5 SL and the other day i heard a pop from behind the dash and then my air started coming out full blast even when i turned the fan down, when i turned the air off it started pumping air in full blast through the floor outlets but it was whatever the temp was outside, I already checked the fuses and unplugged the car battery to see if it would reset but have had no luck, very confusing and since its out of warranty i wanted to see if anyone had similar problems before i take it to the dealer.

I would appreciate any feedback or ideas on how to fix it
