1994 VG Check Engine Light On

My check engine light came on the other day and car has hard time staying running. My car normally doesnt like the winter but it is not real cold here in GA (55deg.) so I dont know why it is running this way or how to find out what the problem is without taking it in the but at the Nissan dealership. Can anyone help?

You can retrieve the trouble codes yourself on these cars..

How to access the codes--> http://forums.maxima.org/3rd-generat...-then-off.html

Code chart---> http://pages.cthome.net/bbachinsky/nissan_ecm_codes.htm

Check the codes, report back to this thread with the results..

I am getting this code too...

At least I think so (Code 13) Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor. Is this the sensor near the Fuel Pressure Regulator. I know some vehicles have more than one.

Thanks,
Aaron Harkness

See the little sensor to the left of the coolant temp sensor (red plug) that is the CTHS.

Ahh.. Hmm..

Well, I puled the connector and tried to squeeze the prongs a little closer together, cleared the codes and it came back. So, I am going to have to check tomorrow and see if there is a short in the wiring harness and if not I guess I will have to change it.

Could this be causing an intermittant knocking noise I hear around the firewall?

Thanks,
Aaron

Just replace the sensor dude, the harness being faulty is a long shot at best..

Maybe I should elaborate. I just tore down the top so that I could replace the K/S. that is why I am thinking maybe cracked a wire. They were pretty brittle. Maybe not, if I can find one locally easily I will just replace it.

no it isn't it's the CTS (red sensor, for the OP's info)

the FSM says that a code 13 (on either VG or VE) is the "Engine coolant temperature sensor". look at EF&EC-259. just going on a limb here, but FSM > some random website

the ECU never sees the signal from the CTHS. the circuit for that goes from the fuseblock, to the cluster, to the sensor, and grounds on the body of the sensor.
