OK... I wasn't able to upload pics yesterday of the
Cattman Header install. So today I'm posting them
up. This is a project that I will never forget. Actually,
me and my mechanic had fun with the install.

Damaged Pre-cats
This is why I had to purchase a set of Cattman Headers.
Hey guys... recently I installed Cattman Headers onto my 2005 Maxima.
During this awesome install I notice first hand what a really bad or
clogged Precat looks like. The precat facing the front grille wasn't so
bad but definitely needed to be changed. Now, the precat facing the
firewall was absolutely terrible. So terrible that the catalytic material
completely jammed up my EGR valve pretty bad. Anyone that gets the
SES light> P1402 code try your hardest not to ignore it. Below are
some pics of the EGR valve taken apart and cleaned. Along with
some of the bad catalytic cone material break-up.

Great side by side pics with the OEM manifolds. The look like a joke next to the Cattman headers. Generic cats they put in these cars, every single one you ought to start saving up for headers, I can't imagine they are only falling apart on some of our cars. Way to many "EGR" issues, probably 95% point back to those darn cats.
Anyway great pics, I can't wait until I get mine installed next weekend.

see first hand the difference between the O.E.M Pre-cat/header
vs Cattman Headers. The O.E.M Pre-cats/header is extremely heavy.
I mean not just heavy "There really freaking HEAVY". There's a lot of
work that goes into this project!!! You definitely have to be equip
with serious shop tools. Once your 2 or 3 hours into the Header install...
you'll be hooked. This job can easily take 6 to 8 hours or more. My mechanic
and I never installed headers on a 6th gen before. So it took a bit longer
then expected. Now that we know the engine a lot more he estimates 4
hours to complete the header install non-stop. Then there's more time
added for wire extending and the welding work for the the o2 sensor
bung and High flow cat. Feel free to ask any question about this project.
I will get sound video either Friday or Saturday morning. OH! And if your
helping your mechanic out with the install like I did. Be prepared to earn
your official battle wound stripes.

There are a few challenges with removing that Precat/header near the firewall.
Your definitely going to need a good swivel ratchet with several different size
extensions. OH! The large bolt on the back for the EGR valve is freaking huge.
So make sure you have a large standard wrench set. B/c you'll need @ least a
1 1/8 wrench to break that nut. Mannn... there's a lot of info to share so just
ask one question @ a time.
And gas mileage... well... total disbelief now... Before, I'd be lucky to get 20mpg mixed... now, I rarely see below 23mpg. If I take 'er for a long highway trip, I hit 30. I kid you not. And that's not using the stupid trip computer.

Glad to see that you have resolved your problem. I'm getting a P1273 code with my installation. The ECU has been reset numerous times, so the manifold must have a leak or the O2 sensor 1 or 2 is bad. The shop is going to take another stab at resolving this weekend. Also my Technosquare upgrade temporarily resolved the error but it came back once more. I too am enjoying the full install and the upgrade adds even more punch.

Improved gas mileage? That's an unexpected plus, sweet!
Make sure to get us pics of the wire extention and new holes drilled etc. So what did you decide to do for catalytic converters? Will you have any at all?

that I purchased from Advance Auto Parts. I'm just
waiting to weld on the o2 sensor bung and extend
that last o2 sensor wire.
Instead welding the High Flow Cat onto the Racingline
Y-Pipe. We just welded it on 6 to 7 inches further back.

The weight of the OEM manifolds is huge. I think the weight savings is about 35 lbs. My pre-cats were plugging up too although not as bad as these. I first drove the car with Cattman cat-back exhaust and no resonator. It was ear-splitting, but incredibly fast and fun. When I added the resonator it quieted it down very well and teh high flow cat hushed it even more. Since then, I changed the cat back out for my 3" mandrel bent single output exhaust into a Vibrant muffler. The headers is one of the best mods in terms of performance. With the right combination of exhaust, you can benefit from the performance and still have a reasonable sound level.

That converter looks kinda big. Done we have some for our cars that are much smaller, like the magnaflow i believe??

they magnaflows are not all that anyway. i had one installed on my car and the damn drone around 2-2.5k rpm was annoying as hell!

congrats One more 6gen completed, You are right big weight difference on these exhaust to stocks, dont have cattman i have ebay same shiz to me but headers does make a wonderful difference on our rides. I myself lovin it enjoy man. The only addition i had to do was add a small resonator to lower the tone about loud after a wee LOL....I have no catts, But o2 simulatters work great..

So the o2 sims do work on the 2004-2008 maxima's?
Because I'm debating on re-doing the exhaust with
NO High Flow Cat. Because I'm switching out my
current mufflers in the rear. Plus, I want to invest
in a really good resonator as well to reduce some
of the powerful sound from the Headers. Which
I like by the way!! Just want to balance out the
sound a bit.

Well, judging by his screen name, they definitely work for the '04/'05... but o2simulator.com hasn't been able to confirm for themselves the compatibility with an '05... from what I understand, the newer Maximas have wideband o2 sensors all around, and they have yet to find a workaround.
