so i had my front brakes/rotors replaced last week and knew that id have to do the rears soon. i SHOULDVE done them all at once- but oh well.

today, i heard a hint of what sounded like a grind... so i went and picked up pads. i wasnt sure if the calipers had to be 'twisted' back so (in the pouring rain) i jacked the car up, pulled the wheels and 15 minutes later had the pads replaced.

$40 for pads and 15 minutes and im all good.

it amazes me that people pay $125+ for brakes.

nope- theyre not glazed and i replaced the fronts about a week ago

nope- no twist.

an old pad and a smooth compression with a c-clamp is all it took.

the only tools i needed were (obviously) a jack, lug wrench, 14mm wrench and a c-clamp......... thats it

its almost retard proof.

 

caution- i have read that 05+ DOES require the rear caliper tool (twist)

 

if did require a twist tool then it wouldnt clamp in if you think about it. I had a 96 with the twist in rear caliper, what a pain in the rear.....lol.

 

Another common misconseption...

Just because you replace the pads dosen't mean the rotors need turned.

man i wish mine only took 15 min ha. damn twisting took longer than getting everything taken apart and assembled.

 

Buying hawk HPS pads cost me, with US$ change,and shipping, 270$ CAN. Eek. From tirerack. Could have gotten napa cereamics for like 170$, bah. Maybe next time. I'm not sure how much the hawk are worth it over napa quality ceramic.

 

04+ maximas have the e-brake separately from the service brake, therefore the calipers don't need to be twisted in, very easy to do especially if the rotors don't need to be resurfaced.

yup- the ebrake is in the 'drum/hub' portion of the rear rotors
