What % TINT should I go with?
What % TINT should I go with?
On my last car I had 5% on the back with 13% on the sides (cops were a pain)...
So this time I was thinking about going with either 5% in the back, 30% on the sides -OR- 20% all around. Any suggestions? My exterior is black, interior grey.
Thanks!

keep it the same all around and if your worried about cops keep it light (25%) and do the windshield it looks way better. i know it illegal but if ur light you shouldnt get pulled.
250$ per window here in Mass I had 20% on the sides and back window and I got a 250$ ticket legal limit is 35%
I did keep the rear window 20% they can't meter that one
BTW I beat that ticket at the hearing

You have to take into consideration that the cops around my house WILL pull me over EVERYTIME I drive by and "they cant see into the car"... SO, I think I can get away with the 20% all around or the 5% on the back 35% on the sides (its Legal and it still looks somewhat dark bc the 5% keeps a lot of lights out)
I also was never a huge fan of different %'s on the windows either but if u keep all the sides the same and just do the back different.. eminemdpc is right, it looks smooth, it looks like its all the same from the side (not like the people who get the front 2 windows 35% and the back 2 5%, i dont like that at all!)

In addition, putting tint on a windshield so your line of sight is obstructed even remotely is an idiot move.
GO with 20% and you will be in good shape.
50% on Windshield, 20% on all the rest of the windows. Don't do 5% on the back and 20% on the rest. Keep it ALL the same IMO. Especially if you are having police issues. Legal here is 27%, but even 30% will look darker because of your darker interior color.
Here is the deal, if I had to do it again, I'd go like 70-80% on the windshield. 50% isn't really that bad but at night it can be just a little too dark. During the day it looks like this.

Im 35-20-20. I would have done 20 all around, but here the legal limit for the front is ----------> 70% which is retarded considering that 50% is just smoked. (rear has no limits)
So at 35 front, im way past legal, but since the back is 20, the front looks lighter, and they can still see in the car at 35 (not 20). Never got pulled over for that, been a year. Lucky or they tolerate 35, cant tell.

I think 50% would have been too light, kinda not worth doing, but that's just my opinion
If the eye dr does get you a Rx for your photophobia, then I'd go 5% it's just too sexy. Personally I have 20% and it's classy. As far as the Windshield it's my understanding any film is illegal. But, it was reccommended to get a clear film for the UV protection. That's really the effective part. The darkness just keeps it cooler, looking and feeling.

That's funny bro because you already know I love your car! It's all good. It wouldn't be able to see with the windshield tinted at all! Whatever you like man...It's all good.

I doubt he would be able to legally do the windshield though. Out here in DE, I have a tint waiver so I can throw on any % tint legally but not on the windshield. I still only went 20% because I would be able to safely see with anything lower.
A little more truth than fiction Viperboy. Young eyes certainly help.
You know it! I just thought it was funny too.
04CleanMaxx, so what you gonna do? And you know we will need some pics.

I think Im gonna go 20% all around and hope the cops arnt ****s. Im gonna call this week to make an apt and the pics will prob be up in a few weeks (depends how soon I can get an apt.)
Thanks guys
Thanks guys
How do you get a tint waiver? that would be convenient! I have 5% all around and like that nobody can see in but i have to kinda keep an eye out for cops although i have never had a problem in a year. Its only a $40 ticket here in Utah though so its not really a big deal if i get stopped for it.

In Delaware or Pennsylvania, you can get a form completed by your doctor which states you have a medical condition or sensitivity to sunlight. Take it to the DMV to get it signed and stamped. You keep the copy they give you in the car in case you get stopped and it's all good. No more tickets to worry about. Check with your local DMV to see if it has something similar.
but i gave him a copy and he JUST called me and said the note isn't valid, i need to get it notarized blah blah blah so what exactly needs to be done?He also said my tint would have to come off and be replaced with a "yellowish tint that is special for light sensitivity that lets in less UV rays but can be seen through". I've never seen that, is that true? The other thing that is confusing is that I believe the inspecion book says that 75% of light needs to be let in, but PENNdot has no restrictions on window tint. It's really confusing.
I think if I would dispute this ticket, I could win on a technicallity because of the conflicting laws, but I would rather have a note so I don't have to deal with this. So what is the official ruling on PA tint and what needs to be done for an official note? Can I leave my 25% tint off and just remove the tint below the AS1 line?
Do you have any more info about this? I just got stopped for my tint and I told the cop that I had light sensitivity. He told me to get a note from my doctor and I did. My Dr. wrote it on prescription paper

This is a good idea, plus it makes them feel safer. I had 5% on my previous Maxima but had trouble seeing at night. And God forbid a car just happen to be driving with it's lights off and you wouldn't see till it's to late. This time I went with 20% all around none on windshield. When I see the police I open my shade on the sunroof and let some sun in. Check the sig for 20%.
Im hoping if I go 25% all around I won't get harrassed as much as I have in the past. Damn County Cops
I've got 20% all around(need it out here) and I think it is fine. I could've went a little bit darker and probably would if I was to do it again, but it does the job and it looks sharp.
IMO i'd go with 20% all around. I got a majestic blue 08 max in NY with 20% all around & it looks great w/ no problems. On a previous car i had 5% in the back & 15% in the front & when i look back at it, i regret having different %'s.
