Cattman Exhaust for 7th Genners

Just spoke to Brian Cattman Via email about a possible production of an exhaust for 7th genners, he'd gladly said he"ll do it.

Brian said we will need an '09 for a 1-2 hour test fit in the Orange County California area, and that whomever makes their car available will get a discount on the part.

Brian will come in and confirm this for me when he gets a chance.

Thanks for posting this, STILLENGLE. We'd be very pleased to offer an 09+ Maxima catback, but since the 7th gens have only been out there a year, we need to determine the level of demand before beginning the project.

If interested, please reply to this thread and let's discuss. If the reader is new to Maximas and unfamiliar with our no-compromise approach to exhaust design and fabrication, check out our reputation elsewhere on this forum - 4th through 6th generations.

I'd love to see a catback be released with no drone, maximum weight savings, and performance. I understand that these high output 3.5Ls are notorious for producing drone and most companies negate this by using a large and heavy "Resonator" along with large mufflers. Eliminating that resonator while maintaining a drone free system would be fantastic for the enthusiasts.

Just an idea.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I need to point out a couple realities of exhaust design. First, its basically impossible to make a performance exhaust that won't drone at least a little at some point in the rpm range, just as its impossible to make a performance exhaust that is as quiet as stock.

Resonators are a critical component, you cannot minimize volume and drone without one, and it does need to be fairly long to be effective. The resonator also helps shape the tone of the exhaust, primarily by filtering out the very low frequency sound that can really make an exhaust sound obnoxious.

Weight savings is great, but the only way to save weight with a catback is to use cheap thin-walled stainless steel tubing, and the disadvantages of that (radiate huge amounts of heat, more prone to cracking, louder sound) far outweigh any advantages from weight savings. Sellers of imported exhaust parts often brag about how light weight they are, but this is in no way a benefit - just means that the exhaust will break sooner, radiate more heat, and sound cheap.

Our complete catback system for the 04-08 Maxima weighs about 55lbs; not sure what the stock system weighs, but its quite a bit heavier than the Cattman system.

I would really be interested in having you develop another exhaust. I am interested in purchasing one and would like to see the options.

No Problem Brian, I know you have a great reputation for these cars, and I know you'd make another outstanding product, the 4th 5th and 6th gen exhaust says for itself. so please any 7th genners dont be **** and get this exhaust, everytime I come on here someone is asking for performance mods but when something comes up no one budges so lets get this started.

If you'd like Id be more then happy to forward this to NYCMAXIMAS as well.

They need a test vehicle first, then they"ll decide when it will be avaliable. the test fitter will get the proto-type.

Agreed, even Stillen's system is considerably lighter than stock so yours should be even lighter if you plan on using a shorter resonator.

I also never mentioned anything about maintaining a "Stock sound." Just no drone.

Thanks for helping us out.

I am a new member and I have a 2010 Maxima Sport. I will buy Cattman exhaust if it has little or no drone.

Well MaxLoverAZ has borla systems for both his Maxima and 370z so, I would take his word for it.
