Rear Suspension

Rear Suspension

I look at my car and it looks like the rear is squatting down, I don't know if it is normal. I have seen other maximas and they also look like the rear is squatting, but the newer models 2007-08 don't.

I just wonder if the spring or shocks are weak and it is time to changed them, I will post a picture to show you what I mean exactly.

the front wheel well is bigger than the rear wheel well. thats the reason it looks like it is squatting.

Im not sure why nissan did this. I do not notice this on any other car models.

my altima was the same way... its just because the car is a fwd. they make the wheel wells in the front slightly larger than the rear to accomodate the movement of the front tires.

Glad you posted this thread. I have the same issue and it looks strange when sitting in the parking lot. I also thought the shocks or springs required replacement. However if you look at the 08 with stock equipment it looks like both tires are even. By the way can someone tell me if 4 inches for the front wheel well to tire(245-45-18) is normal.

One thing that definetly improves with a higher a wheel-well is road noise levels. Proximity is a big factor in determining the amount of noise.

Anyone can tell me where to look for rear shock mounts: in the trunk on under rear parcel shelf? Going to replace the whole setup with KYBs and need a little insight. Is there a write up on the rear replacement? I found one for the front, but not the rear.
How critical is it to use a torque wrench when tightening suspension bolts and nuts? Or as long as I don't overtorque it I'll be fine? Thanks in advance.

1. do you have a sub or system in your trunk?
2. remove your spare tire from your trunk. it will remove 20-30 lbs.

3. lower your Max with some after market springs. it will help the front end look much better.

nissan dealership....

it is always best to use the t-wrench but as long as you dont put a lot of strain tighting the bolts you should be fine.

Yeah, cause you almost never use that spare tire, it just sits back there doing nothing...except provide some peace of mind if you should ever lose a tire...

i only use my spare when i go on long road trips. other than that, i have 24/7 tow services. (flat bed tow truck please). Insurance covers cost of tow.

I did notice the back of the car rise a little with no spare.

I'll never be stranded because of a single flat tire. And what if you're an hour away from home, and you got someplace to be, or it's late. Do you really want to wait another hour for a tow?

Naa, I'll keep the extra 30 lbs for that added reassurance that I can get out of a sticky situation by myself.

on #3

on #2, I am not sure I have the ball$ to remove it because with my luck I'll end up getting stranded where the moose play - if you know what I mean...
