Frozen calipers and bad rotors on rear. Please help.

Hello people. I did my car inspection on Sat at Meinke auto center. They said I have to replace both rear calipers and rotors in order to pass. They want $700 for parts and labor. Of course I took my car back and come here to ask for advise first. What I'm trying to do is buy the parts online and find somebody to do the installation for me. So here are my questions:

1. Where can I get some cheap rear calipers and rotors online?
2. Is Brembo rotor for $45 each good from tirerack?
3. How much would it be for installation for both calipers and rotors?

My year of the car is 97 and I try to be as cheap as possible. I just want to pass the inspection. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks so much!

If you want to be as cheap as possible with all new parts, you can probably get it all done for ~$150 from RockAuto.

Have you not checked the classifieds? You can get rear calipers for cheap on here. Just check Maxima_Joe or teaner's partout threads.

Brembo isn't the way to go if you're looking for absolutely cheapest. You can get rotors at most auto parts stores for around $20 a piece.

No point in asking us how much installation would be. Depends on where you go. Different places have different hourly charges, may charge book time or not, may charge for extra materials or not, who knows. Call up the shop(s) you plan on taking it to and ask them, not us.

Should just do it yourself, really. Wouldn't take more than an hour or two.

Order your own parts, and as pmohr suggested, the cheapest prices to get your car working again will not be by using brembo. Cheapest labor will by doing it yourself, its not hard if you have good tools. If you're skeptical, throw an offer for around $100-$150 in your local form to do them for you. If you were local for you, i'd change out your brakes, rotors, calipers (including bleeding your system) for around $100-$150.

Order online or go to autozone. I just did my brakes and it's something you could do yourself. Why are you looking at brembo rotors if you want to do this cheap?

I'm looking into getting my wife's car new brakes. As far as the rotors go, what's a good choice besides the Brembo OEM type? I just know the name, but there are others that are half the price. I want them to be good quality and not warp. Are the Centrics any good? EBC?

use the search button, and you are hi-jacking this thread. But brembo's are great quality which has a very slight chance of warping. Other's are not bad rotors, just not all of them are perfect.

I recently got remanufactured rear calipers for my '95 Max at Autozone for $50.00 each exchange. You can rent a caliper tool there too. It's a free service. You pay for the tool. they give you a used one, then refund you the total amount when you return it. However, you won't need the tool if you are not trying to re-use the old calipers. Wagner Thermoquiet pads are cheaper than Brembo, but still get pretty good reviews. Advance Auto was offering a rebate through a third party outfit. $15.00 per set if I remember correctly. That may save you a few bucks.
