KYB Dust boot really that bad?

I'm ordered some KYB dust boots but after reading a few old post from this web site it seems to be that they are cheap and dry out and rip in a matter of time.

Any have them on without any problems? Or should I cancel my order, which I could.

fuh real? it's a dust boot man, it won't make any noticeable difference. if it rips put some duct tape around it and good like new.

Yeah I think the thing that most people say is don't get KYB strut mounts. Dust boots...meh, not that big a deal. Some people don't even use them.

I'm likely due for new shocks (284,000kms on original OEMs) but my dust boots have been toast since about 100K. Doesn't seem to really make much difference to have them or not.

haha me too. mine have been gone so long i starting to think that it is the way it's suppose to be, 14 years on the road and no suspension problems -- at least from the boots.

I've been waiting for the shocks to bounce or leak or for the tires to start to wear bad etc. but they won't die. I just rep[laced the original clutch too and while it was certainly time, it wasn't all that bad. Some hot spots on the flywheel and getting close to the rivets but not bad.

Still, after 14 years and all those miles, I have decided the old girl deserves some TLC. I am planning to replace springs and shocks; tie rods, control arms with bushings and ball joints; sway bar links and bushings. I'll be poking around here to find recommendations on all this stuff rather than post a question and get slammed as a Noob that doesn't search. Curious about the ebay front suspension packages but the price almost seems too good to be true.

It was a response to another courteous poster on this thread not the OP. You are going out of your way to slam a NOOB. Don't be too confident. I am only a NOOB to this forum.

Yes KYB dust boots suck ***! They shred and fall apart in no time. I put on a new set on some illuminas and after only about 2 years, they were already in pieces.

it is the strut mounts that are not recommended.

I have seen too many forums where some feel the need to "initiate" the Noobs so perhaps I was a bit paranoid. Thanks for clearing that up.
Our English may be slightly different but our math is the same - the car is 12 years old. I must have been thinking of the mileage

Once water penetrates the boot, it can create a fertile rust producing environment. +1 for no boots
