Does Pep Boys Oil Change Void Any Warranties?

Will the fact that I'm not going to a nissan dealership to get the oil change void the stock warranty in any which way?

The grade of oil and filter needs to conform to Nissan specifications. If your VQ35DE develops a lubricant-related problem or failure directly traceable back to your Pep Boys oil change, they could void your powertrain warranty. What kind of oil and filter did you let them change your sweet Maxima over to?

As some here may not wish to wade through the 400 pages plus Owner's Manual, I will mention that it does not tell us the nomenclature of the oil filter; at least not in the sections discussing oil and oil filters. This was a disappointment to me. It simply says 'when replacing, use a genuine Nissan oil filter or its equivalent.' In every instance where I am expecting straight poop, the manual seems more intent on steering the reader to using Nissan service and products than it does informing the reader.

The manual is specific with oil. It calls for an API or ILSAC certified Service 'SM' SAE 5W-30 oil. Virtually all major name-brand 5W-30 'SM' oils are certified, and meet all warranty requirements. I would avoid unusual or exotic brands, and especially avoid all oil additives, as those could open up the door to warranty issues. Keep careful records of your oil changes, just in case warranty questions arise.
