Just Test Drove One
I just got back from test driving a 7th gen. I intentionally waited this long so that I wouldn't be tempted to ****** one up. My plan is to get a 2010 model just in case Nissan finds some minor details they need to fix as was the case with the '04 model. The 7th gen does seem like a little more refined vehicle than the 6th gen. I don't have anything bad to say at all about the car except that I wish the power folding mirrors made the cut. I'm hoping they come back in the 2010 model. I really do use mine every day when pulling into my garage. I also wish the rear windows went all the way into the doors but this is a minor detail. The salesman looked crestfallen when I told him there was nothing he could do to earn my business today. However, he was polite and understanding. I'm sure he'll keep in touch. Does anyone have any speculation or insight as to when next year's models will be out?
Like you, I hope the power folding outside mirrors make a comeback. But I don't see this happening before the 2011 (8 1/2 gen) at the earliest. Very little usually happens the second year of a new generation.
It would be nice to have the rear windows go all the way down, but that would have required restyling the side of the car, as the windows, whether up or down, have to stay within the doorframe, and if these went all the way down, the rear portion would extend through the bottom of the door.
We haven't heard a thing about the 2010, but there have been no pervasive problems with the '09 that Nissan might address through a model year change. I will be surprised if the 2010 has any change of significance, and don't expect the '10 to arrive before August.
My thoughts that the 2010 will be practically indistinguishable from the '09 would have been there with any second year model of a new generation, but are even stronger when we consider the economy. Car manufacturers are treading water, trying not to drown in red ink.
It's a really great car if you do decide to go with one. I drove a ton of cars and this one really hit me for the price. I'd get all the options you want/need, get a good price by researching what others paid. other than that good luck.

Whether I'll get one or not is pretty much a foregone conclusion. The only thing in question is the price and when exactly I'll pick one up.
