FS: 5sp tranny parts

I have a non-lsd 5 speed I am thinking about parting out. It was given to me as a core in exchange for a transmission that I had previously done some work on. If anybody is interested in parts let me know. If there aren't enough people interested to make it worth parting out, i'm just going to replace the input shaft bearing. I figured I might as well gauge interest before fixing it.

Good luck with the sale!

The tranny that we picked up from you, is in good shape and works well. Thanks!

Actually the power valve is in bad shape because the engine bay was rained on for what looked like months. Maybe it still works, but it looks like a part pulled from the Titanic

I'm glad the tranny is working out. It was missing a mounting stud though wasn't it? I noticed that when I threw the VG case on the bench and it was propped up on an extruding stud that I don't remember being on the one I sold you guys. Maybe it was there and I just had it hanging over the edge of the 1.5" of particle board that I rest the trannies on when they're on the bench.

It was actually missing quite a few things... I discovered one of them today. Someone has torn this tranny down before... ISB??

I tried to call you today.

Yeah, saw that I missed your call.. I don't see what else it could be missing besides the throwout assembly, position switch and speed sensor which I let you know that you needed to salvage from the VG tranny before trading it in. I thought you said it was working well

That tranny was traded to me by a guy from Vancouver, for one that I originally pulled from a car in Federal Way. He gave it to me without the throwout bearing assembly, speed sensor or position switch, which is why it was missing those parts. He said he was having trouble getting in and out of gears, turned out to be a leaky slave cylinder as he had the same problem after installing the one I gave him in return. He said he had his mechanic crack it open and take a look, but said that he didn't do anything other than open it up and put it back together. When I got it, it was locked in gear due to bad reassembly by his "mechanic". I never tore it down, I opened it, inspected the bearings, synchros and made sure that the selector rod wasn't being blocked out by anything, then I reset the check *****, sealed it back up and made sure that it shifted through all gears. That's the extent of the work I did on that particular transmission.

There were some external stuff that I knew was missing and some that I didn't. I didn't notice the studs that were missing. There's two studs that bolt to the engine, one stud that bolts to the starter, and there's a ball shaped stud that the tob fork pivots on. I found replacements for all the studs except the ball shaped one. I had to fabricate a new one. lol. I should have looked closer and swapped stuff over from the other tranny. That was my fault.

It was working well but then it locked up (wouldn't shift). I knew that one or more of the check ***** or pins were missing. I had to tear everything apart again. I discovered that the check ball pin, that goes inside of the 3-4 shift rod, was missing. I also discovered that the front mainshaft bearing was toast. I just happened to have an extra bearing and so I replaced the bad one. Then I fabricated a new check ball pin. It now works great, but there's some bearing noise?

I'm just glad to have my garage back. My friend's car has been torn apart in my garage for the past week because we've had one problem after another... What a pita.

Just to clarify, the check ***** that I was referring to "resetting" were the two that you insert from the outside of the case after closing it up, not the main row at the base of the rods where that pin is located. Of course I never tore down the internals so I'm that goes without saying. I'm very surprised that it was missing that pin because rods should have dropping making it obvious when putting it back together and shifting on the bench...

Anyway, glad you got it sorted out.

My shift fork broke again and my 3rd gear syncros are toast. I would also like to have a taller final drive. I'll give you $100 shipped for the input shaft (w/ everything on it), the main shaft, the final drive gear (w/out the diff), and the 3rd-4th shift rod (w/the fork and the cast iron piece on the other end).

Actually I dont want the final drive gear (ring gear) and main shaft because it won't fit. The VG 5 speed uses an R180 and the VE uses an R200. I just need the input shaft and 3rd-4th rod stuff. I'm willing to pay $75 shipped.
