My Battery that I got at Autozone. 2 years ago died out. They suck 2 months over warrenty and they will not help out. Any ways Whats a good replacement for the Maxima 1999 Live in Boston MA so winters are tough ..thanks

 

Optima Red/Yellow Top hands down...

 

Agreed. I bought a red top for my Murano at a Sam's Club (south of Boston) last fall for just under $125.

i got a yellow top for my audio system, works great
but that autozone battery should be under a prorate warranty now, meaning your not getting one for free, but you should only pay like 20 bucks for another one since they credit the old one

 

I got a red top optima with no complaints. Whatever you get, make sure it has alot of Cold Cranking amps.

I take that back. My battery decided to die after 13 months. I decided to get a regular battery because the Optima's cannot do a deep cycle charge, only surface charge. I could not get it jump started. How embarrassing at a McDonald's parking lot.

The Optimas are very good , but I can't justify the extra $$$ for my needs.
If you want a good basic battery and dont have power needs for audio, I would go with a Kirkland battery from Costco. I haven't found a better battery for the price. All 4 of my cars/truck have had them for years without a problem. I always get a higher CCA rating and it still comes out cheaper than the competitors.

 

I have a crummy autozone battery as well that just missed the 2 year free replacement but they gave me a new one for $20 so not that bad imo. You should see what they can do for you.

i bought a die hard battery from sears, it will last for about 4 years and they give you a 3 year replacement warranty.

Keep in mind that the warranty on the Optima yellow top is only 1 year, whereas the red top carries a three year free replacement warranty.

 

All my batteries are from Costco. Kirkland batteries are made by Johnson Control, who make the die hard batteries for sears. The kirkland bats can be returned within 3 yrs for money back, exchange. One of mine still going strong after 5 yrs ( lexus suv )

 

My OE battery lasted 6-1/2 years.
I've had an Interstate now for over 3 years.

Optima bla bla bla, they look pretty plus your paying for the name. My .02.

The Interstate cost me about 50 bucks and I hope to get 5+ years out of it.

 

AC Delco. when i had a bad ects (didn't know much about maximas then) my car would stall out contantly. sometimes i could restart it right away, other times i'd have to sit there cranking it, literally for almost 2 minutes. this often happened more than once a day for months, and still my battery took it.

i have also sat through 4 hours of drive in movies with the radio on and my 1200w amp going. it could even start my mom's pick up which would normally require an additional 300 amps. AC Delco builds a beasty little battery and i'm sure i'll get another one when this sucker eventually goes.

i know the yellow top optima has only one year free replacement on it, but i work at autozone, and for some reason, the battery registers as having THREE YEARS free replacement, which is WEIRD because it does say on the battery itself only one year. . . .

 

I've had good experiences with Interstate batteries. If I remember correctly, I got 5+ years out of my last Interstate battery in my 96 GLE and replaced it with another Interstate. If my 95 SE battery dies, it will be replaced with Interstate as well.

For my cars, they work well. If you have a high-powered audio system, you may need more. I don't really know much about that.

I think the optimas are over rated anyways. Interstate makes pretty good batteries and I've had good experiences with them. My dad who used to be a mechanic swore by them and used them in every car he had. If you're not running any fancy audio then I would say go for Interstate. Plus they come with a 5 year pro-rated warranty. If you're looking for something on the cheaper side then I'd suggest Costco as well.

idk about optimas, but my interstate has worked very well. I have a hydrogen fuel cell in my car that I have accidentally left on several times, draining the battery completely (not even a dim overhead light when I open the doors). A quick jump from a friend, drive it for 15 minutes and I'm good to go again for...forever?

Maybe I should get the switch hooked up to the ignition, so I can't forget to turn it off...

 

i have a duralast gold in my titan, and have a full system including lows, mids, and highs, and it holds up pretty well, but i have heard only great things about optimas...i just had to replace the battery in my max...

 

I've had mine for about 7 years, in three different vehicles and it sat on the garage floor for six months as well. I've never had to charge it or leave it on a tender no matter how long the car has sat. I've even jumpstarted cars off of it without even starting my car just to see if I could. IMO they are worth the money if you must have the best.

 

Interstate all the way. For about $70 an Interstate should last you 5+ years. That's what I always replace the factory batteries with. I live in FL and dont have any issues with freezing cold starting, and although Tallahassee used to get cold, the Interstate never even hiccuped. I have a yellow top now only b/c the guy who sold me the car put it in there for the stereo.



Is it true that the dry cell's(optima's yellow and red's) shouldn't be jumped, but trickle charged rather? I heard that... but can't verify.

 

Got a Interstate for Celica (past) and Pathfinder (past), all worked out pretty good. Using a Redtop on I30 for 3 years so far ok. Bought a house-brand battery (plus extended warranty) at Canadian Tire for my wife's Acura, bad very bad, I am now skeptical on house-brand stuffs, might be Kirkland and Diehard are better, don't know and don't have money to try. Personally I will get another Interstate on next purchase. Learn from a friend, important thing is to look at the 'shelf time', if a store gives you an awesome price, take a look at the traffic at his store and at the battery label...(date code etc)..

 

Optima is truly hands down the best out there.
However, if you can't spring the extra cash I have had good luck with NAPA brand batteries...

Got a battery with a 65 month warranty for my daily driver, 650CCA for only $70.

Go for what you can spring really.

 

I just ogt a yellow top optima. Built for starting and can hanle a realy strong sysem. so if you have music in your car this battery is the best i know. They also have red tops and blue tops fir different applications.
