STS MOD! JUST FINISHED. WOWWWW

Well i thought i'd post back and thank the org for this INCREDIBLE MOD! ANYONE WHO HASN'T DONE IT NEEDS TOO ASAP!!!

It was EXTRREMELY simple and the benifits we're amazing. I honestly was not expecting to make such a huge difference due to it being free but it feels like a completely different car. The shifts are rediculously shorter, absolutely perfect. It's a little stiff getting into gear but i like it like that. And the idea that had i of messed up i could just return the cable to the stock position made me pull the plug on it as soon as i read about it.

Don't take my word for it, go do it yourself. The outcome is probably the BEST MOD i've ever done to my max, free or paid for. considering it's hard to find a short shifter for our cars.. this was unbelievable.

Thnx.

I'd like to do this, glad it came out good for you. I read about the mod but never wanted to indulge. Need a little more in depth about holding the rod down or in the 1/4 inch deep hole and actually understanding what it is im doing too would probably help. Either way nice to hear it does benefits for you.

It's bolted into the metal, there's no way for the shifter cable end to slip off. After the hole is drilled and tapped, you'll see that once that bolt is tightened down, it's not going anywhere. It works the same as an aftermarket short shifter for the maxima, by changing the pivot point. It's pretty simple and totally reversible, so there's really little risk involved.

its extremely simple, i thought the same before i started mine(that i needed more detail) but the detail in the write up is all you need. And there's nothing you can drill threw that could damage your car, and if you mess up (which i have NO IDEA HOW YOU COULD) you can always just put it back on the stock pivot point. The throws are almost exactly similar to a 350z or g35.

I'm happy for you. My feelings exactly the first time I drove the car after this mod. For that matter, it's been 3 months now and I'm still pretty psyched every time I shift.

Good for you!

lol considering it needs the shifter cable to do this mod i think it would only be a 6mt mod only or you could buy a shift cable and super glue it to the auto and then adjust it but yeah, if seirous its a 6mt mod only.

My next question. Could this mod be done to any stick? If you have abilioty to drill near the shifter cable? and if it adjust right?

yes i believe so, I'm pretty sure you can also do this on the 5th gen. I think any car where you're able to drill and play around with the shifter cable it will work. just set it to where u like it, and drill.

I did it today, on my way home the shifter cable popped out. There was no clip to hold it in. Anyone know where to get a clip from. It looks like this

Mr. Skeptical

So - no ILL-effects to anything in the driveline or otherwise?!

Anybody have any comments on whether this helps cure (mask) the third-gear crunch at all??

If so, I'm on board....

The 3rd gear crunch is another beast that's not related to this mod, and should be reserved for another thread. This mod will neither subside or enhance your 3rd gear crunch no matter how different it may "feel".

What about a 6th gen (2005). I spent 2 hours searching these forums to find out if I can make my 6sp shifter shorter (meaning less tall) and shorter (meaning shorter throws). Very frustrating trying to find anything on here. Can anyone point me inthe right direction?
