I had a pair of black r34 headlights on my 97 max and both of them leaked water in . Now i have a 1999 max and i like the way they looked ,im thinking about getting a pair but want to know if anyone else had that problem or was there something wrong with my pair ? thx

 

I'd just reseal them with some Permatex RTV Gasket Maker

 

did that and they still leaked so yea im looking for people that experienced th r34's

 

i've had mine for almost a year now (since mid-august 08). no problems. as long as when you're washing your car you don't spray directly at them.

 

so if you spray directly at them they will leak?

 

I bought a pair when they first came out. No leaks ever. I think you just had bad luck on your pair Xkazik.

my friend and i did some dyi black housing on his headlights for an rsx, we used rook tar to seal them up and they havent had any type of leaking issuses lol. if you buy some new ones take tham apart and reseal them with that **** and it'l hold on not leak! and you can spray watter directly at them and wont leak as well. resealing them can help you with headache in the long run ...

 

Re seal it......my corner markers used to leak but i resealed them and they r great now

 

I heard the R34's are known to leak blinker fluid, that may be your problem

I love using that joke too. It is great when you are discussing car stuff with someone who cannot even change their own oil...you say something smart like...."Did the shop have a blinker fluid charge?" ...and their response is, "I don't know, I'll have to check the receipt."

SERIOUSLY, TRUE STORY!!!!!!!! This happened to me at a wedding for one of my buds. Some rich guy who had a BMW 570iL. I just walked away LMAO!!!

Back to topic: I was thinking of getting the R34 headlights for my car. Is it worth doing. A lot of other threads were saying the light output is not that dramatic from stock....is this true? I am going to try polishing my lens first; it would be nicer to have a farther low and better beam pattern. I know my headlights are pretty well aligned now, but I really would like to have a little more output on low.

 

Yes it's true. Light output is WORSE than stock. Mine are retrofitted with projectors.

 

Do you recommend retro over the aftermarket? Do you lose the ability to use high beams with the retro? I have been reading this as well, or is there a way to get the high beams to work if this is the case?

 

Retro vs aftermarket what? Hids? If so, yes. Retro'd projectors is the way to go IMO.

I still have my high beams. You could do a Bi Xenon projector or dual projectors-one high and one low. Lots of options.

I definitely like your setup. If I decide which way to go, it would more than likely be your style. How hard is it to perform the changeover and about how much $$$ am I looking at to do the convertion? Thanks in advance.

 

How hard is it? That depends on your skill level. It's different for everyone. IMO, I'd rate a retrofit as moderate difficulty. Conversion can cost anywhere from $300-$800 depending on what projectors/ballasts etc you go with. My setup has about $750 in parts alone.

 

i put these in my max, they made a HUGE difference in the amount of light they put out. i got mine off ebay, they came with the bulbs (except the corner lights) the brights are alot farther than stock and the lows dont go out as far but they are brighter. i just need to adjust them and aim them up more. i think they look awesome! i love them. very happy. i dont think i installed them right though

 

You're the first person to claim they're brighter than stock.

Received your PM. You need to install the brackets to ensure proper installation. You should have no gaps at all when done. No fabrication/modifying is necessary, except for attaching the grill to the headlights. Let me see if I can find a thread showing the brackets and how they get mounted.

In words, the bracket gets mounted to the frame/body by the corner light on a thin vertical piece of metal using two screws. You then attach the headlight to this 'L' bracket with the screw provided as well as the screw closer to the grill. Make sense?

Oh yeah, you might have to switch the brackets around as mine were mislabeled. Left is right and right is left.

my stock headlights had a lot of that milkey film stuff inside the lens, may be why i thought my stock ones sucked. but these are a lot better than my whole families cars, i may have just got lucky. ill get some pictures tonight.
