I'm the original owner and it's not a daily driver anymore. This time coincidentally the week of the inspection the air bag lamp started flashing. No big deal, it's been going off for maybe 6+ years now, I just do the reset. But it took over an hour to get it to clear. I've always focused on the driver's seat, but this time, as soon as I touched the plug on the pass. seat, it cleared.

So thinking that the inspection is a piece of cake, I took the car in to have the mechanic fail it for a chip in the windshield that's been there since 2002. Also claimed I needed a new tire due to a sidewall scuff and wouldn't you know they'd be glad to rob me on a 235/40-18 (no thanks, I have a spare at home). $209 later for the new glass it passes (interestingly the Safelite windshield does look the same as the OEM without the Nissan logo).

Seems like everything is fairly sound on the car since it's checked during the safety inspection, it's the little things that start to go...a little oil on the intake and valve covers, poss. leaking clutch, power steering....

 

Thanks for the tip on the Safelite windshield -- mine has a serious chip too, about where the driver might look at the front left hood. I have not done it till now since the replacements I found were clear glass, but I wanted something like the original with the tinted top.

Wow, just curious...where are you from? I'm from Texas and my car has passed inspection for the past 6 years that I've had a crack going left to right right in the center of the windshield.
