Got rear ended, car considered a total, they sent me a check. Can I still sell car?

Well after 10 years with Maxi I got rear ended and well needless to say shes old and even with the mods it was considered a total. So the guys insurance contacts me and says the car is worth X amount sign these papers and will send you the check. Well they took off 150 bucks and I got to keep the car and I still have a clean normal title in my office. My question is can I sell the car to someone who want to fix the minor bumper repairs or how do I know? I am trying to figure out if I can just try and sell the thing or to piece it out.

If I have to piece it out what do I do with remains of what I couldnt sell? Do you have it towed to junk yard? DO they accept anything? Is there a fee.

Thank You

PS My new car is 05 Corvette, God bless America Muscle. I will always love my maxima though, its hard trying to think about selling her off. I always said I would keep the car forever its just costly with moving and storing it.

In my experience when i rear ended a girl, the insurance co. totalled the car out, but i got a chance to buy it back. The first check i rec'd i turned back into the insurance co. and they deducted what the buy back amount was and was issued a new one. I've never heard of buying a car back for $150, but hey that's good for you.
As far as parting it out, it's all up to you, if you think you can make money doing that, then do it. Or just sell it "as is".
And for the rest of the parts/hulk of the car, if you have a place you can store it w/o tickets just keep it at your residence. I would try to strip off all the goodies i.e. rims, aftermarket stuff, etc and store it and sell it to other org members. If it's an eyesore get a carcover for it.
As far as having it towed to a junkyard they do charge for the initial pick up and probably per mile. Once it's there i think it'll be given a certain amount of time before it's theirs. Who knows what happens to it after that....good luck.....Got pics?

I run a junkyard and yes most likely any junk yard will tow away the remains of the car after its been stripped, Some will even pay you for the chassis /metal.Only thing you need is the title..Hand that over to the junkyard when they tow it away and go from there.

if it was reported from the insurance company that it was totaled and you sell some the entire car with the clean title, when they go and transfer the title into their name they'll most likely get a pink or yellow title back, Depends on your state, And it will be classified as a junk car.

Where are you located?..If you're in the indiana/michgan/ohio area, I got dibs =]

But. . . . . . .The insurance usually gives you an option to buy it back and thats what he did.So its his to do what he deems worthy from this point on.

Once again..I have tow truck waiting.. =]

Have you or have you not read the rules concerning this forum?

Your sig pic is too big. 600x450? 550x325 is the limit.

550 pixels wide at the widest. Also, please avoid extremely long signatures as well. 325 pixels will be considered the limit of signature height.

The guy I got my Max from only parted with it b/c he got a 07 convertible vette' and needed the cash. I got a steal, picking up his weekend car for the last 9 years. Enjoy the American muscle, those American V8's are sweet.
Sorry about the sig, didn't realize how big it was until I saw it. I know the rules, and was working out the kinks. Be nice to the noobs!

They did you a favor. The 150 deduction kept the car from being a total loss. If it had been a total loss, the ins. co. would take posession of the vehicle, then you'd get paid.

The car is yours, the title is clean, fix it, sell it, do what ever you want with it.
