Slaming jerky shift from P to R (and from gear to neutral)

Hi
97 A/T.......It doesn't make a difference whether the car is parked at height or not , as I always engage the hand brake before shifting to park(so the car weight remains on the hand brake not the gear)....The same jerkiness noise when the transmition shifts from 3rd (mainly) to neural when coming into a stop ....... It sounds like popping (TUGH sound)or something that should transmit movement smoothly but it doesn't ......

Can you please suggest what the problem is ? engine mount , bad CV boots , link sway bar ?? mainly it's on the left as I feel it.......Problem is more noticeable at morning (RPMs are high ~1000) when moving from P to R...as I feel like the car is lowering downward with the sound ......

First, your trans should not 'shift into neutral' from 3rd when you come to a stop. Are you saying that you are shifting into neutral? There's no point in that.

Have you checked for worn motor mounts?

Haha lets start with the small and easy things first to see if they fix the problem to keep it easy on the heart

Is your transmission fluid a clear pink/red color? And is up at the correct level?

But as usual you should follow Pmohr's advices first hahahahah

Also keep in mind that when the ATF is cold, the TCM raises line pressure. This coupled with higher than normal RPMs at idle will give it a noticeable jolt.

Check motor mounts.

Open the hood, with the engine running, foot firmly on the brake, put the car in drive and give it some gas. Hold the brake firmly so it doesn't move. Watch the engine, it should move very little. Repeat this with the car in reverse. Watch the engine, it should only move very little.

If you see the engine lift upwards or noticably move around under load, you have a bad motor mount.

I know it doesn't shift from 3rd to neutral (automatically) right away...but when the gear is in 3rd approaching a stop (like at 5 MPH).....that's when a pop is heard.....
I'll check for the mounts

Is it better to buy them from autozone or the dealer or online ? any advice appreciated

It's better to buy them from a source that gives you the best deal. If you can get them from Autozone with a lifetime warranty, then go that route. If you can get there cheaper online with shipping, get them online. I use RockAuto.com for a lot of stuff.

Are Anchor engine mounts any good (did someone used them ? ) ? they are around 50$ rear , 80$ for left and right sides....Does it worth somehow expensive OEM mounts ?
