Maxima Died, my mods to blame?

So I went to start my car yesterday and when it fired up the motor was knocking like a mother. At first it was very loud just because the initial rpm jumping to 1500 rpm then dieing down. Once the rpm was steady it was a continues knocking noise coming from the motor.

Now mods wise me and my brother did:

00vi
Lighter Fywheel /Clutch (didnt even break in the clutch)
Y-Pipe
EU + ext Rev

I did extend the rev limit to 7500rpm on the stock internals which could have weakend the crankshaft bearing or somethign else inside the motor.

I Havent taken apart the motor to see the problem I was just told by about 4 people the motor was finished, which is a pain in the *** as I invested time and money.

Im getting another maxima and will transfer all this stuff over. Any suggestions on what else should be done to increase the stability of the motor like maybe a rev up oil pump and valve springs?

Ohh the motor was very close to 260 000 kms which is about 161,556 miles.

Was this bad luck or just me?

Thanks

maybe you dropped a screw in the engine when doing the 00vi. Are you getting any codes? Its hard to say what happened cause theres not much info.

Maybe after extending the rev limit you revved the pee out of it and spun a bearing.
I'm sorry, but it sounds like it may have been your right foot responsible.
Mods wont cause the kind damage your describing, but they will allow a motor to run hard and fast enough to destroy itself where it may not have before.
Did you replace rod bolts? Main studs/bolts? Did you mod the bottom end mechanically at all?

Maybe you ran lean past 7k??

Are you sure its a knock and not some timing chain noise?? Does it come rapidly or is it delayed and random?? Is in constantly making the noise or is it every say 3 secs??

If i were you and your motor happened to be shot then i wouldnt grab another maxima. Id throw in a new motor........

Also if you were contimplating on putting in a new oil pump or HR springs or whatever then you should just do a motor swap anyways just cause its alot easier doing it outside the car vs inside the bay.

Have you tried going back to stock timing and stock fuel map???

I had the 00vi on for a good 2-3 months.

Nope, just in the morning when I fired it up it made a noise like two squirrels fighting to the death...

No I didn't replace any of that. The car didnt knock when I was passing the 6500 rev limit, it went out on me when I fired it up in the morning

Past the 6500 rpm limit I was running 12ish afr. I'm sure it not the timing chain as the motor idles fine and if it was the chain the whole car would somewhat be affected.

The noise comes rapidly at first then maintains the constant knocking.

The reason im thinking of buying another car is because this one has some rust, the rockers are bad. Plus finding the damn motor is hard aswell.

I think all in all I either spun a bearing or something else with the crankshaft.

Low on oil? Sounds like a spun bearing.

Not really. A bad tensoner will cause chain noise but not really affect the cars perfomance.(unless you skip a tooth)

People have this issue quite often with vq's and usually drive them till they die instead of changing out the tensoner.

Also have you tried going back to stock timing maps and fuel??

So i take it your performance is down or not up to par??

Oil was on the low side on the dip stick but not low enough for the motor to be dry.

It was a 1997 Maxima SE,5 speed.

By timing you mean ign timing with the EU? If so I havent messed around with that yet. Ill see if its the tensoner.

Some things to check:

-Did EU die? wires come undone?
-Any codes?
-Did you ever rev it high when cold? (past 3k)

Also, is it DEAD...or does it actually turn over but just has severe knocks?

-EU is fine
-I had many codes do to not having the egr and some other stuff with doing the 00vi
-I never reved it when it was cold

It turns over then knocks like a mother

Yes thats what i mean. Turn all your maps back to zero and see if that makes a diffrence.

Do you know where in the engine bay where the sound is coming from??

Also is your perfomance affected by this??

The sound is coming from the left side of the engine bay. I havent taken it out for a spin as I did not want to test it out and have it go on me. Once I herd this noise I basically started it another 6 times on and off to show it to my brother, dad, and a mechanic friend. Then It was towed to my brothers friends garage.

Thank you very much for your smart *** answer, but I don't remember directing any questions at you.
I wasn't sure whether we have bolts or studs in the mains, or what the aftermarket offering is for that matter. All I was asking, was did he do anything to prepare his bottom end for high revving?

I too find it very funny that people think they can extend the rev's 1K over what the mfg limits without any internal engine upgrades.

Well, we found metal shavings in the oil...So yah. Shes done.

Was under the impression these motors where bulletproof ^_^ jk...

If I find another max what would be some internal upgrades to safely run the car at 7.5k. By safely somewhat more controlled.
