any recommendation for new drive axles ?

I'm going to replace the whole front drive axles, should I go for OEM ? or any good brand with a okay price? I checked autozone, they have Duralast Reman / CV Halfshaft for aroudn $150 one side. On ebay $40 for right side, $60 for left side, but not this brand.

where do you guys usually shop for these stuffs? Is ebay motor trustful? thanks in advance!

I purchased new axles from Advance Auto Parts and they are working well. I think they were $70 a piece.

Hate to tell you this .... but a NEW axle will break your wallet. Most all of the AZ, Orielly, or others are reman .... even Raxles. Just depends on the quality of the job done. Trust me, you know the difference when you look at a Raxles vs AZ, OEM, Orielly ... any of them. You pay for quality. Acutally ... you pay for what you get I guess I should say.

$150 is a bit steep - IIRC, my ps axle from Raxles was $120 w/ shipping. However, I'll never need another one as long as I own the car! That's my real point!!!!

I disagree with the "new axle will break your wallet" statement. DO a search or call around. Advance Auto, O'Reily, and AutoZone.CarQuest (Napa is simply a big ripoff) all have New and reman axles for sale. The remans will always require a core deposit unless you dont mind paying more. The new parts will not require a core deposit. I've replaced many axles before on different cars and I've gone with the New ones and they average from 56-100 bucks NEW. The $100 axle was for a 2003 6spd and it was the passenger side which is the longer one.

On my 3rd gen I paid 64 bucks for each axle NEW. On the 4th gen I paid 54 bucks last summer..

I'm trying to figure out if my car worth of investing money. MROTH in my area is going to take a look at my car and give me his opinions next week. If the car worth of more investing, I'll go for a good axles.

By the way, didn't you click the like in my previous post, the new one is just $60 in autozone.

If your car is not worth $150 axles, why are you even driving it?

what I mean is that, if the car is not in a good condition, especially the engine, then I'm not going to use higher quality parts, engine may die the way earlier than other parts. So maybe a $60 axle is good enough.

$150 axles is not only $150, it's 2*$150 + $150(labor) = $450, If you know your engine is not going to last long, are you willing to spend $450 to replace axles? so what I'm trying to do is to figure out what the condition of the engine, with oil analysis, compression test and so on.

Go with the cheaper one, I prefer remanufactured, I have never seen new axles at a cheaper price. But whichever you choose make sure it comes with a warranty, covers the mechanics of the cv axle not the boot.

I'd do autozone just like I've always done but not at $150 a piece. I've always paid more like $50-$75 a piece.

Nope. will be on the trans code beneath the VIN on the ID tag on the firewall. RS5F50A is an open diff. (this code is for a manual transmission. only one I remember off the top of my head) If you have a locking, it will be RS5F50V. I can almost guarantee you have an open diff. But only that will tell you for sure.

See message #30. You have a V, so you have a locking diff. Lucky you. A locking diff. puts power to both wheels regardless of the situation, whereas an open diff. on a slick surface will spin one wheel. Not 100% accurate, but thats the general jest of it.

You know, I really dont c what the big deal is with Raxle for the maxima...

They dont even provide any kind of beefier setup that OEM, the only difference between Raxle axles and Autozone or Oriely Axles is the fact that they have a thicker CV boot and use Redline Packing grease for the joints...

I REALLY find it hard to justify such a large price hike for a thicker boot and nice packing grease IMHO...to each their own i guess...

I got the lifetime axles at Auto zone, and i beat the CRAP out of my car, they have been on there for over a year now with no issues...

They were half the price of Raxles AND when i snap a boot i can bring em in and they will replace it free of charge...
